Just Another OC Homeless Guy: So... we're supposed to focus our attention on the picture rather than the content of the article which discusses the idiocy or deliberate genocide (pick one) of diverting a good chunk of our food supply to line the pockets of Environmental Plutocrats?

Whom they are nothing compared to the Oil Plutocrats, which they have ties with terrorists.

Ethanol effectively exists due to federal subsidies.

dlewis6: Not like corn is really a food anyway. While everyone's raving about the government getting their nose out of it, can we ask them to quit subsidizing it too?

Corn is food for food. Most of the stuff used for ethanol isn't human grade, it's animal (like cow and chicken) feed grade. This diversion of animal feed to vehicle fuel is what's driving up the cost of beef (ground beef is up over 50% in my area) and other meats.

It's also driving up the cost of a lot of other produce because the prices for corn are so good farms are switching production to the new cash crop instead of growing wheat or whatever they grew before.

They use ethanol because it has half the energy content of gasoline, meaning you get less for your money and have to purchase more gasoline.

That and the engines of older cars have a hard time dealing with the ethanol because it is highly corrosive to fuel system components and it will slowly kill them over time, leaving the owner no choice but to purchase another vehicle thus stimulating the economy.
