It's also driving up the cost of a lot of other produce because the prices for corn are so good farms are switching production to the new cash crop instead of growing wheat or whatever they grew before.

Sort of, the point of corn for beef cattle is the sugar content. Cows get fat off of corn, just like people get fat off of candy.

Did you miss the part in the article that says the EPA mandates that 1/3 of our corn is turned into ethanol ? Is that how a free market works ?
