Not like corn is really a food anyway. While everyone's raving about the government getting their nose out of it, can we ask them to quit subsidizing it too?

Corn is food for food. Most of the stuff used for ethanol isn't human grade, it's animal (like cow and chicken) feed grade. This diversion of animal feed to vehicle fuel is what's driving up the cost of beef (ground beef is up over 50% in my area) and other meats.

It's also driving up the cost of a lot of other produce because the prices for corn are so good farms are switching production to the new cash crop instead of growing wheat or whatever they grew before.

kryhme: They use ethanol because it has half the energy content of gasoline, meaning you get less for your money and have to purchase more gasoline.

That and the engines of older cars have a hard time dealing with the ethanol because it is highly corrosive to fuel system components and it will slowly kill them over time, leaving the owner no choice but to purchase another vehicle thus stimulating the economy.

The free market at work.

Too bad it's you stupid warmers who are responsible for the ethanol mandates, moron

Corn isn't even food for food. It's filler with no nutritional value - so they don't have to use actual feed. That said, there are three ways to pretty much guarantee I eat what's served at dinner: put cheese on it, add corn, or add bacon. Add all three and I'd likely eat my shoe.

Sort of, the point of corn for beef cattle is the sugar content. Cows get fat off of corn, just like people get fat off of candy.

/Oddly enough, with the corn prices so high some ranchers are feeding candy to their cattle.

Maybe it's that way up in Canadia. 'Round here the green pump is for diesel and the yellow for ethanol.

It's also hard to take your assertion as anything more than ideological drivel unless you provide some supporting links. From reputable sources.

Did you miss the part in the article that says the EPA mandates that 1/3 of our corn is turned into ethanol ? Is that how a free market works ?
