""Republicans don't have to start acting like Democrats to win back the confidence of the public. They just have to wait for the Democrats to spend us to the brink of disaster""

This is what Republicans have wanted all along. Republican Senator Lee said he wanted to see America suffer a economic collapse "so we can rewrite the constitution". Yet, these shiat bags call Obama arrogant!!!

2012-11-22 10:13:01 AM
Oh look, another dumbass who thinks Republicans are better for the economy.

2012-11-22 10:17:15 AM
I hate to break it to you America, but, if you want to enjoy the trappings of a safe and civilized society, your taxes ARE going to have to go up. We simply can't survive at the rates we have now.

2012-11-22 10:20:46 AM
Somehow Americans have gotten the mistaken idea that the wealthy actually pay fewer tax dollars than working people.

yeah, but only if you believe those icky things called 'FACTS' and Real Republicans don't let 'FACTS' get in their way! f*cking 'FACTS'...I mean what good has a 'fact' ever done for anyone? you go around believing in those, you'll end up in a godless heathen gay marriage faster than you can say 'tax cuts for the rich'. then comes the abortions and gay marriage and OMG the SOCIALISMS so many SOCIALISMS!

*ahem*

sorry. what was I talking about again? oh, right. rich people pay exactly the same amount in taxes that YOU people do...um, whatever it is that you people pay. I wouldn't know, my accountant hid my funding in three different countries and i'm not sure about the details. but i'm sure it's exactly the same amount of taxes that you little people pay.

Weaver95: Somehow Americans have gotten the mistaken idea that the wealthy actually pay fewer tax dollars than working people.

Of course most wealthy people pay more tax dollars (some do pay zero taxes).

We just want the rich to pay the same tax rate! If 35 percent of my earned wages go to taxes, then Mr. Billionaire should pay the same 35% rate. Why should I only take home 45% of my income (yes I only take home 45% of my pay, gross wages - tax, payroll deductions, healthcare, retirement deduction, etc.) while Mr. Billionaire who makes $100,000,000 (100 million) per year pays only $70,000 in taxes (,0007 percent). Which is more "TAX DOLLARS" than I pay but a hugely smaller tax rate. He should be paying at least 35 million to pay the same rate of income tax.

Republicans love to place number games...

2012-11-22 11:04:09 AM
The problem really is not with the tax rates, the rates being floated are still about the same or a little less than the rates under Reagan and no Republican is going to say growth did not occur during that time. The problem is money in politics. There is a small group of very wealthy people that look at taxes like any other business problem. If the cost to them of raising the tax rate by just 5% would result in an increase in tax paid by 100 million a year then spending 50 million to buy a few senators and house members is a cheaper option. While most will think members of congress can not be bought they certainly can be rented on both sides of the aisle to hold positions that harm the majority of the US.

Grover Norquist is not running out of funding anytime soon and SEIU and their ilk have been expanding just to have enough money to keeping imposing their policies to the determent of the majority of the US.

I actually like some of the plan being floated that would eliminate all capital gains on families earning less than 250k a year, allowing but doubtful to occur a family to put more in saving to cover the reduction in SS that will happen when they do finally do retire.

2012-11-22 11:12:28 AM
The same Democrats who have cut the federal government, propose reducing the military to something that won't bankrupt us, and a universal health care option that would reduce a cost that is 20% of our budget?

Yeah, those f*cking LIEberal commie homos. They will bankrupt us all!

2012-11-22 11:46:23 AM
I can't wait for the Democrats to spend too much money so that we can finally have a Republican who will increase defense spending by $2 trillion. Because I a fiscal conservative.

Good, then get out of the way and let them sweep you back into power because of how awful they are. If you think it'll work, then get the fark out of the way.

tax-and-spend democrats are like the liberal media - a relic of the 1970s and 80s. they don't really exist today. so when you live in the fox news conservative entertainment bubble and continue to fight against this nonexistent foe, you will continue to lose to the real thing. it's like building billion-dollar bombers designed to counter the soviet threat when the real danger is stateless terrorism.

2012-11-22 12:15:37 PM
Republicans are utterly clueless about the way the economy works. They dont seem to understand the most basic of concepts. They seem extraordinarily math challenged.

California seems to have budget problems every year, but the GOP didn't get anywhere near a supermajority this time around.

Treating Democrats like they are the Soviet Union would work if, you know, they weren't more than half the country. We have to do this together, assholes.

you may think you're being facetious, but you're correct - well, sort of. bush's neoconservative foreign policy is at its heart a liberal idea: spreading american-style democracy throughout the globe. the problem is, like most neocons, he spread it by the sword because he believed that the great unwashed weren't smart enough to choose democracy for themselves. many of the original neocons were disillusioned trotskyites, after all.

I went Googling that, thinking it must be hyperbole, but shiat... how do these people get away with it? Why don't people go "oh that guy would rather destroy the country than negotiate on taxes, perhaps I shouldn't listen to him when he says the Democrats are trying to destroy the country, because clearly it's he who is trying to do that..."? No one should ever listen to him again, in fact I think he should be ran out of office, he is not someone who should be representing anyone. It's madness.

If George W. Bush was a liberal, how exactly do you know that Obama isn't a conservative? Obviously it's all based on hindsight about how the economy performs after 8 years of their administration and not their actual political positions.

Thus, Clinton and Obama are conservatives, W. is a liberal.

Please pay attention to future updates to this fiscal policy that may happen in 2016.

Mitt Romney's actual plan to balance the budget:

1) Cut taxes across the board 20%.
2) Increase military spending by $2 trillion.
3) Cut PBS.

I laughed my ass off in the debates when Romney, after claiming to want to balance the budget, repeatedly stated that he absolutely REFUSED to cut the "defense" budget.

So when would we know that was happening? Like, when our credit rating is downgraded? When we fall off a "fiscal cliff?" I need to know when to start panicking.

They are somewhat correct. A disaster will eventually happen, no economy is perfect, and whoever is in power will suffer for it politically. At that point, merely being "the other guys" would be enough.

Two problems: The GOP tried and ultimately failed to cause such a disaster forcefully. This causes a second problem; the gop might not even survive (meaningfully) to take advantage of any eventual systematic problem.

They should have just maintained a stubborn yet reasonable position and waited until a perfect opportunity to flip their shiat.

About the only way they can rise now is if the democrats actually fark up.

They'll stop voting in high numbers like they do now, and without them, the GOP will have nearly nobody in the working class to back them on their corporate agenda.

They'd have to start making sense and doing things for the middle class, and that goes against everything they dreamed of when they sought power.

How much of the tax expenditures do the 1% or 10% consume? You seem to have forgotten that particular statistic. I doubt that the top 10% consume 70 percent of the things that taxes pay for. I equally doubt that half the population only consumes 3% of what taxes pay for.
