Electrify: Carth: maddermaxx: JohnnyC: Herr Morgenstern: Incidentally, I don't get the rage over the above picture. Sure, she made an offensive picture that disrespects our troops and posted it on Facebook. So how is that different from the rest of the farking Internet?

Nobody likes a bad troll... she failed to make with the funny and only accomplished the annoying. Therefor she is a bad troll... which nobody likes. Well... someone probably does, but fark that guy. He's dumb too.

Eh, it looks like she's just making fun of the sign, rather than trying to insult the troops. Of course, I haven't seen any more of the story (if there is more to the story), but making fun of a sign is not the same as going up to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and doing the same thing directed at him.

The picture was taken at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, since then she has been placed on unpaid leave at her job and there are people contacting her employer trying to get her fired. She dun goofed posting that one on facebook.

Here's hoping she isn't in a right to work state and can sue her employer for lost wages. I doubt she was actually yelling, and was simply being silly. Yes some might find it funnier than others, but one shouldn't be fired for making inappropriate jokes or comments on the internet. Otherwise, nobody on Fark would be able to hold a job.

JohnnyC: Calling the cops seems a bit extreme... I don't call the cops generally.

Cops tend to cause more trouble than they solve when it comes to minor situations like this. They're useful for some situations, don't get me wrong, but this doesn't seem like one of them.

Oh... and I really don't those damn bells. I've always considered them offensive in the sense that the ringing is generally obnoxious. Assaulting my ears with incessant ringing is not the best way to inspire me to want to support their cause.

...neither is discriminating against gays and lesbians. fark the Salvation Army.

Electrify: You guys know what is more annoying than those bells? Being in poverty and having to rely on the Salvation Army to survive. And unlike the bells you so despise, it is not something you only have to deal with for 15 seconds as you leave the store.

/work at a grocery store, hear them constantly this time of year, and they don't bother me one bit
//DNRTFA, but the lady should be charged criminally for making frivolous calls to 911

They are an organization that discriminates against gays, and destroys toys they don't think agree with their religion principles instead of giving them to children. I have to believe my donations can go to a better organization than salvation army: if they don't ring annoying bells that is a bonus.

Ugh. Around here all we get are dumpy "Volunteers" in plastic vests half-assedly slinging their bell back and forth while they sit on their ass all day.

Where the hell have all the guys in Santa costumes gone!?

I mean, at least make an effort...

I remember a story from a few years ago, where people had donated Harry Potter toys to Salvation Army, and the toys were thrown away. Something about "The Devil"...That annoyed me.
Not to mention the discrimination against the gay population.
I donate elsewhere.

I don't mind the Salvation Army bell ringers. They don't actively solicit donations; they're there, and you can donate if you want or not.

What I absolutely *hate* are those obnoxious kids sports teams that sit in front of the liquor store and aggressive and obnoxiously solicit for donations for their upcoming trip to Seattle for the year end tournament. I don't usually give handouts to people who genuinely need it; what makes you think I'm going to give them to a bunch of over-privileged white kids. If it were a homeless person soliciting for money to buy something to eat, people would call the cops. Yet when some lame sports team does it, it's somehow different.

"Parents": if you let your children actively solicit strangers for donations, you've failed miserably.

JohnnyC: maddermaxx: grumpyoldmann: Hyphenated name = Coont.

I'm trying to work out the logic for this, and all I can come up with is that someone with a hyphenated name touched you in your naughty place when you were a child.

It's the break from the tradition to take the husband's family name. The hyphenated name means she added her family name to her husbands last name. It's possible she made her husband do the same thing. I don't mind the tradition... and neither does my wife, luckily. I just wish I could force my ex-wife to give up my family name.

Or she was born with that name.

I was always under the impression that they would stop ringing the bell when they got a donation. You know, like as an incentive.

Agree, however some of these volunteers (of which I was one... once) really need to TONE IT THE FARK DOWN.

They are just following orders.

Oh sure, we can legislate bums off the street, but these pests can park themselves wherever they like?
