They just went out to make sure people weren't being served contaminated food, or being put at risk.

No fines were issued (contrary to the misleading title).

Jesus people.

eltejon: But I guess when you are more concerned with trying to justify your job's existence...

THIS.

Although it's not necessarily justifying their existence so much as it is sad little failures of humanity using their tiny bit of power to punish the rest of the world. Those kinds of positions attract sociopathic personalities like flies to shait.

anotar: Because making the health teams do the relief work alongside the firefighters would have been too practical.

They want cleanliness and sanitation, hand them a broom and some bleach water and tell them that broom don't sweep itself.

This. You want restaurant-grade accommodations at an temporarily-placed emergency shelter tent? Congratulations, you've just volunteered your time as the highest-level official on site, and all the resources your government office budget can bring to bear. Now, get on your cell phone and fix those problems!

kryhme: They just went out to make sure people weren't being served contaminated food, or being put at risk.

And that would have been fine, if the goal had been to help remedy any risk-related issues. But it wasn't. The inspector wants everyone to recognize the authority of government without being willing to embody any of the responsibility entrusted to the government.

BronyMedic: Bootstraps, Sir. These people were using their bootstraps. How dare they be bothered with such pesky things as hair nets and gloves.

You know what the leftists on Fark have taught me? That these people should just starve while waiting for the government to get them food. No one else should be allowed to help. Government is all, people are nothing.

And in the unlikely event that a wretched volunteer (ugh, those disgusting people) is allowed to help, then we must not use common sense with them. Let the people starve before giving in to common sense.

Did anyone read the article? Nobody was fined. The inspector came in supposedly to give recommendations, but instead acted a bit like a duche and did a inspections as he would on a restaurant, then handed them a list of violations. No fine was given, and it wasn't an official inspection so nobody will be held accountable for the violations.

Queensowntalia: Real 'muricans don't NEED food safety standards. USA USA USA

No, no no. You have to approach it with the Fox News: FAIR AND BALANCED approach.

Communist Food Safety Inspectors force innocent Firefighter at Gunpoint to put on a hair net, so that he may orally service gay men while serving food as required by the Obama Administration. Coming up: What is the Government doing enforcing what Jesus should be doing for you.

Hey Hurricane Sandy victims, enjoy your salmonella; we couldn't possibly tell those heroic volunteers to follow food safety guidelines.

Inspector probably wouldnt have been an ass if the firefighter hasnt been one as well. And I don't see where it mentions them being fined. All in all it could have been handled better by both sides.

Just because your doing a good deed doesnt mean you get to act like a wanker.

SockMonkeyHolocaust: Some days I think that if Hitler had just claimed that the Holocaust was for charity (if it really happened that is). then people would get outraged that the Allies thought it was necessary to go to war against Germany.

I totally agree.
