(Slate)   Michigan is contemplating creating tax credits for fetuses--right after it slashed tax credits for actual, living, breathing children. The pro-life movement has officially reached its reductio ad absurdum moment   (slate.com) divider line 128

I'll be curious to see how the whole "isn't this just encouraging poor, single mothers to have more children than they can afford?" argument is handled, particularly since it's almost that exact line of reasoning that led to ADC becoming AFDC and then, finally, turning into the far more restrictive TANF.

Here's my idea for a science fiction story. In the future, all women are constantly surrounded by heavily-armed guards who will gun down anyone (including the woman) who tries to perform an abortion on her. At the second the baby is delivered, it is whisked away by the guards (if it's a 0.1%) or gunned won (47%er). Anything in between is shouted at to get a job, why do you hate America, get a job.

Working title is "Morning in America"

Yeah most of my ideas are pretty bad.

2012-11-21 01:12:56 PM
Yo Subby... It not 'pro-life',, it is 'pro-birth'. They only care about it while its on the inside. Kind of like private prisons and the incarcerated black youth of America, making a nice profit for private prison contractors.

/Or anti-choice.
//In a magical world, once the sperm swims into the egg, a fully formed baby is created with eyes and toes and arms,,, so obviously the mother needs to be arrested for smothering the poor little thing in her belly.

The two can be completely unrelated actions and this one would help aid in getting women to take better care of themselves and the baby by getting proper prenatal care. Why does the slate hate healthy women and newborns?

These people believe in god because they've been blessed with a job that lets them work in their pajamas and they can literally say or do anything, and people will believe them and give them money. There has to be some divine hand at work there.

I mean, he's throwing magic water at an ultrasound machine and getting paid for it. WTF

I saw the picture and took a double take when I notice there was an actual baby sonogram going on. I had to look again to make sure it was not an internal sonogram going on. My mind flashed to what my wifes reaction would have been if a man in vestments walked in during an internal.

As I recall those are machines that were donated to "pro-life" religious-based care centers as a stupid anti-Roe-v-Wade stunt. Idiotic, but at least it's relegated to the realm of idiots and at least they'll serve a useful purpose in helping care for pregnant women.

The machines do not give a shiat if some dunce tossed a few drops of bottled water on their screens and chanted some insane gibberish from a book written by stoned, bronze-age goat herders in a desert halfway around the world. They will still serve their primary function just fine.

In fact, of all electronics MEDICAL equipment is probably only second to military watercraft equipment in terms of moisture resistance.

For some reason the FDA assumes that hospitals are full up to the ceiling with incontinent people on a collective caffeine binge.

As the tax credit appears to be a couple thousand dollars and an abortion is generally under $800, it's clear that the FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE thing for a woman to do is have at least one elective, post-12 week abortion every year.

I mean, paying a dime more than I have to in taxes would be stupid, right.

Thanks, GOP!

Ah, but you see, this will require regular doctor's care to prove. Which means that poor people won't be able to afford all the doctor's visits required, which means the tax credit will go only to white Christian pregnant women as God intended.

"allow taxpayers to claim a dependency exemption for a fetus that has completed at least 12 weeks of gestation as of the last day of the tax year and that has been under the care and observation of a physician since at least 12 weeks of gestation." Yep, tax exemptions for fetuses.

Seems legit. To qualify, you clear the first trimester, and are under a healthcare provider's attention.

Clearing the first trimester means that you've cleared the first health related hurdles that often lead to the termination of the fetus during its first three months of developement and make it difficult to become a fetal deduction machine by aborting the fetus after the deduction is made.

The spirit of this bill seems to be is to provide relief to the financial burden of prenatal care, and offer an incentive to initiate prenatal care to those who otherwise would not participate in a prenatal program due to economic hardship.

Had they have not cut the child tax credit previous to this, you guys would be in full defense mode of this bill had anyone suggested this to be another program for the poor that needed to be cut.

It shouldn't be the government's roll to financially reward some slut who had a good time and wasn't smart enough to prepare for the costs and responsibility of a child.

Also, you might be surprised by the number of water leaks in medical offices. I work in healthcare, and it's like clockwork: During the dry months, Engineering does nothing about the previous years' roof issues, but come Autumn when the rain starts pouring through the holes again, they patch like crazy because they no longer have the budget to actually fix the problems. then come the following year, there's money in the Engineering budget to fix the worst roof problems, but now that they have been patched, the bosses hold off and spend the money elsewhere during the spring and summer. Autumn rains come around again, the leaks return, and we're back to square one again.

Every single year.

So yes, medical machinery needs to be moisture resistant for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is cheap-ass engineering departments.
