Only 70% of every dollar is spent on entitlements according to the IRS website. If Dear leader can ignore the facts they we all can.

What else should the government spend its money on rather than the health and welfare for its citizens?

Defense. Didn't you notice the article is about the CEO of Honeywell, a defense contractor?

/Raise taxes.
//The GOP cut taxes after starting a second war.
///Party of fiscal conservatives, my posterior.

He also said that the government needs more revenue. SO he's endorsing higher taxes as well. Like he says multiple times hes a business man not a politician. you make more money by increasing revenue and cutting expenditures. He doesnt say anything revolutionary, he's just spouting business safewords for an interview.

COTE: At the end of the day, you can't avoid the topic, especially with the baby boomer generation retiring. It's going to literally crush the system.

Cote told us that if Washington doesn't make a deal by the deadline, the nation will be condemned to two percent growth and eight percent unemployment.

Well, if he's right then will be looking at slow growth and high unemployment for the discernable future because ain't nobody in Washington gonna touch that third rail "SS/Medicare".

Health and welfare of those who have more money than they could possibly spend in one lifetime?

What's with the whole "omg I can't believe this guy is saying don't spend money if you ain't got money" thing. I still haven't figured out that magic trick. How is any entity able to spend money that doesn't exist?

Wealthy defense contractor avoids topic of cutting defense contracts. Excerpts for your pleasure:

Dave Cote knows about fixing finances. He pulled Honeywell out of a slump. It's one of America's largest industrial conglomerates, with 130,000 employees making products ranging from aircraft parts to home thermostats.

PELLEY: When it comes to cutting the budget, where does that money come from?

COTE: The big nut is going to have to be Medicare/Medicaid, and even though most people don't want to talk about it --

So this guy sounds like more of a , "Hey let's raise taxes on the rich and close loopholes to increase revenue"-types. Which means that he is sortof looking out for the peasants. Of course at this point I think that most of the rich are just trying to figure out what list they want to be on.

The heads that will roll in a rich man's world
or
The heads that will roll in a poor man's revolt.

Ah the healthcare/insurance/politician 3-headed snake eating itself. Businesses make healthcare products and provide services and drive up the price to increase margins. The items/service/medication is paid for by insurance companies, who also like huge margins. The costs of doing business with each other is too high and cut into each's profits. Where do we they make up the difference?
Wait, now you're saying the government's healthcare system is the problem and it needs to be cut out so you can get more revenue directly from consumers/patients/victims? And slashing medicare while at the same time no one lowers taxes, all of these healthcare expenses come out of pocket, leaving the middle and lower classes with much less money and in many cases no access to health care?
Good plan everyone. Raises for the executive boards and politicians, all around!

Yeah, but even Rmoney told them they got theirs and fark everyone under 55. We've got another 30 years of crazy spending left no matter what.

Cote's "big nut" is his own industry's defense contracts, even though most contractors don't want to talk about it.

He is saying don't spend money on tax payers. He isn't saying spend less on war and pork.

And the money exists, we just aren't collecting it. Cutting taxes when there is a budget deficit is like quiting your job when you can't pay your bills.

The original point: protecting the people from those who would do them harm or fraud.

2012-11-21 11:28:46 AM
COTE: I wish I had made up this phrase -- cause it's so good -- but it's "capital is a coward." So when it comes to hiring, you know, I let people attrit. They retire, they leave for a variety of reasons, and I'm just not going to back-fill those jobs. I'm not going to hire for them. When I look at capital expenditures and I decide, should I build that new plant? Or should I modify it? Should I upgrade it? Should I invest in this new product? You know, maybe I'll hold back a little bit, I'll wait and see what happens, and that's happening across industry right now.

No, you are a coward. You have no new ideas and no real purpose, yet you refuse to step aside and give someone else a shot. You're just coasting to the grave, you dick.

Summary: We have to cut Medicare and Medicaid now or else we might have to cut them later.

Translation: We corporate welfare queens have making out like bandits for 30 years and no way do we let that change.

Actually, I thought what he said sounded pretty reasonable - increase revenues and cut spending. It isn't rocket science, though I would forgive anyone for looking at our politicians and thinking it was a religion.

I thought all the QEs were bond buying programs by the Federal Reserve to pump liquidity into the market? Was that just creating money out of thin air or the Fed spending the money it's got (which is a lot, and since they're all private and stuff are free to do). What I don't understand is how our government buys more things than it has money for and gets away with it because no one calls them on it I guess? And when someone does call them on it they're all like "hey all these other people will get really really mad if we say we can't buy things for them" so we'll just let it slide till like, something something something.
