If you are blessed enough to be able to avoid political chatter on Twitter, you may not know that Silver became a sort of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for liberals seeking peace and serenity during the turbulent 2012 presidential campaign. Just as the Beatles had the Maharishi to guide them through the tough times after the death of their manager Brian Epstein, progressives had Silver's New York Times blog to comfort them after the first presidential debate. My liberal friends spent countless hours manically refreshing the "538" blog every three minutes or so throughout most of October seeking reassurance that President Obama would win. Water usage on the Upper West Side took a dip during that time when progressives realized that bathing regularly would keep them away from the site.

Got that far. What an unmistakable asswipe. Next time someone tells you MSNBC is JUST LIKE FOX AHUR, ask them "Which FOX liberal is an insufferable asshole who gets 3 hours of airtime a day?"

I had been through enough political campaigns to know that predicting the outcome of any election with numerical certainty was tricky business - especially in a presidential campaign that had been in flux since that first debate.


Certainty, probability, whatever.

Maths are hard, durr.

During a Morning Joe discussion, I mocked both liberals and conservatives for cherry-picking polls to prove their candidate was all but assured victory.

This is pretty much the point. The problem being, is that Silver doesn't pad out the polls to give "his" candidate a boost. Therein lies the rub. His methodology doesn't favor one side or another, and rather, looks at the larger picture. In the case of this Presidential race, we had a media who REALLY wanted a close race, so that they could sell more ad time, as opposed to actually reporting the news, and actively tried to skew things to make it appear much closer. It was NEVER a close race. Much like it was NEVER a close race for the Primaries either. This has been a Silly Season full of narrative attempting to flummox math. Plain and simple.

Nate uses math. I realize that when you work FOX or Politico, that math is sometimes a difficult thing to admit has validity, especially when folks attempt to try to bolster their claims with faux math, and then point to more bogus math used by "the other side" whilst attempting to wipe the bullsh*t off your own, but at some point, we need to return to a media environment that at least attempts to report the news, as opposed to trying to actively make the news.

No you dipshiat. If Obama had been losing most "liberals" who were going to 538 would have still been going to 538 and saying something like, "damn...he's losing." They wouldn't be like the vast swath of right-wingers who literally believed (or at least said as much) that Romney was going to win right up until 8pm or 9pm (CST) on election night. And a good portion of the "liberals" I knew were worried that Obama was going to lose because they were paying attention to the media "horse-race" blather or right-wing nutballery.

If this apology isn't in the form of a suicide note I'm not really interested.

Nate Silver had shown many months ago that the slice of independents was the smallest in decades and that even if Romney won them all, it probably wouldn't be enough for him to win the election. Given that most of those independents were Fark Independents, Romney had to chance to win.

Scarborough is a puts.

He could have graciously said,

"you know, i like most americans just don't understand advanced math -- we can, it shouldn't be so advanced"

or

" hey, i called you an ideologue -- that was out of line and incorrect: sorry"

but neither of those appeared to have happened.

It makes the show unwatchable for me. He's condescending, dismissive, and arrogant with absolutely no valid reason to be... As he is usually wrong. About everything.


I like watching Mika make "My god, you're an idiot" faces at him, though.

Um, no. MSNBC is just like FOX news but for the Democrats. All they do is ape liberal talking points. How could it be possible they have a former Republican Congressman host a show that runs for 3 hours every morning?

And they certainly don't have an early afternoon show co-hosted by S.E. Cupp.
