So supposedly this is about embezzlement by this Tim Cromer guy. But seriously, how much money could one hope to embezzle from the freakin' Detroit public library? Hitch your wagon to a star there, buddy.

Wow, way to write a news story that fails to put information in the right order and thereby leading the reader to all sorts of wild conclusions first.

This is how it should have been put together:

A different sort of research took place at the Detroit Public Library on Tuesday, as FBI officials armed with search warrants entered the library's main offices and scoured through records, according to local news reports.

The Detroit News reported that authorities spent much of their time in the offices of the library's chief administrative officer, Tim Cromer, who according to the newspaper has been the center of several spending controversies.

The FBI also reportedly raided Cromer's house Tuesday, a source told The Detroit News.

Nine FBI agents were at the library's main offices in Detroit on Tuesday morning, The Detroit News reported. They arrived at 8 a.m. and left around 11 a.m., with three cardboard boxes and "what appeared to be computer equipment," according to the newspaper.

"I don't know how many (search) warrants," library spokesperson A.J. Funchess told The Detroit News. "They aren't really sharing a lot of information right now."

While Funchess acknowledged the library raid, he declined to provide any further comment to NBC News.

Yea it was horribly put together. They acted like it was a complete shock that the FBI raided the library, then admitted they knew exactly why they did no more than a paragraph later.

Tuesday's raid follows money problems that forced the system to close two branches and lay off 80 of 364 staffers - and persistent questions about spending. In a series last year, The Detroit News exposed allegations of misspending, mismanagement and nepotism.

Among other purchases that were questioned, the library bought 20 lounge chairs for $1,100 apiece at a time it was cutting staff.
In May, The News reported about Cromer's ties to a contractor who received $3 million in no-bid technology contracts.

Embezzling is becoming/has become rampant in Detroit

After living in Pennsylvania and being spoiled with Carnegie's libraries everywhere, the jokes here are actually pretty accurate. I've never seen such awful selection or more useless research materials anywhere. I think the library at my high school was more useful than any library I've been to in Michigan.

I don't usually go for the hairy chested ones, but in this case I might make an exception.
