Does anyone in the ME honor truces?

2012-11-21 12:14:39 AM
I can't help but think of subterfuge, that some 'black ops' from Israel snuck a few short-range missiles into Gaza so they could shoot them into Israel, kill 3 people (admittedly sad for at least 3 people) just so Israel could unf*ckingload on Gaza...

/false flags are a fact of war

Everyone but Israel.

Well at least they're honest about it and aren't seeking a ceasefire with every intention of breaking it. A "calming down".... DIAF, Hamas.

Remove all US troops in the area around Gaza/Israel. Remove ALL support - other than the Red Cross/Red Crescent - from the area. Yes, Israel as well. Since our support hasn't produced any lasting peace, let them fight it out and save our money/resources for our OWN problems. Let Israel/Hamas have their "fun" and show the world how well they behave to someone they don't agree with. I would guess that the entire Gaza area would be nothing but a smoking ruins, if not glowing in the dark.

Neither side has the sense or maturity to approach any of this like adults.
There is no point in our continued involvement there.

We have troops stationed in Israel?

Quick google search indicates that there were a few in October for a training mission

But that support removal would also include removing all support for Egypt and Jordan, right?
Pretty sure that a lot of the Egypt/Israel peace treaty came with support for both sides. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

And yes, I think that all out war would go a lot further to resolving this issue. Unintended consequences be damned!!

A lot of this...

I mean honestly, for all the Jew hating and Israel bashing, could you imagine being a non-muslim in that whole region of the world? Or Heaven forbid, a woman?

I'm not even trolling - most of those countries are still living in the dark ages, it's absurd.

The absolutely crazy thing is the talk of the blockade removal: Seriously, those rockets didn't fall into Hamas's hands from the ether, they were smuggled in - en masse - and considering the volume, pretty contantly and consistently.

They have no interest in feeding their hungry or building their infrastructure... this is another death spasm of Hamas: No one recognizes them as legitimate, this is a tragic waste of life aimed at rallying their base. AND it's utterly transparent. The PA isn't exactly the most swell folks either, but they are at least trying to become legit. THEY don't even recognize Hamas' legitimacy.

This whole situation is rediculous, and I swear, a ton of this is just good old fashioned hating on the Jews. Why is America involved in Israel? I don't know, ideological similarities, trade, technology, access from the Med, and a ground population that is - and I mean this honestly - wholly unlikely to go insurgent on them at the drop of a hat. Why is American involved with Taiwan? Or Burma? Or any place in Africa? We can either embrace our role on the world stage OR we can become insular - which historically is pretty much the kiss of death for a society.

I think the real shame is so few people are willing to call it like it is. Hamas is f**ked. They got a chance for power and they've been squandering it ever since. It's tragic, I'll admit that. Other countries in the area offer them nothing, they just keep Gaza bottled up and filled with hate. You think Egypt gives them more aid than Israel? In money or food? Or work visas? But then they might actually be able to live normal lives. unlikely... It's sad to see a people so abused by their own country-men and "allies". jordan at least has been trying with the West Bank, and things have - ZOMG - gotten better. Hamas... not so much.

I just wish there wish there was a bit more f**king honesty in the whole thing.

/I swear the next time someone calls Israel an apartheid state, I'm going to ask them why they hate Ireland and just keep the DERP up to 11. It's so stupid.

An hour and a half ago, Be'er Tuviah:

sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net

This is what a rocket that isn't intercepted looks like. Over 30 of these were fired today (starting from about 7:15, the dozen or so over the night "don't count"), 800 over the past week and over TWELVE THOUSAND since Gaza became Judenrein 8 years ago.

There won't and can't be a cease fire until the terrorists launching rockets from behind civilians and onto civilians don't CEASE FARKING FIRING.

Me too, but seems unlikely. Too many fundamentalists on both sides, claiming god's will etc. Rabin could've been that guy, and he was shot by one of his own. Same'll happen to any moderate Arab leader who, by some miracle, rises to the top of the pile in the West Bank. He'd get offed by his own for giving in to the Zionist entity or whatever.

In the absence of full on ethnic cleansing the likes of which hasn't been seen since the germans were pushed out of e. Prussia Poland and czechoslavakia at the end of ww2, I don't see how it can get unfarked. And even then, even if the arabs were removed, the ground is still sacred...

It just seems absolutely unsolveable to me given the current paradigm.

The only thing that would help would be if the US withdrew help from Israel, but that will never happen.

All of the advocates of this are infantile. Zionists are pussies. It is too bad that the Palestinians had the misfortune of being co-located with these vindictive cowards.
Why do we give these manipulative freak's apartheid state three billion dollars a year? What benefit are we receiving?
Who were we to reward them with other people's land in 1947?
Why is our war machine on such a hair-trigger that we would invade Iraq? What are we going to do with it now?
When is our economy going to get off its war footing?
How is it practical to have a little brother state? What is the precedent for this?
Why don't we realize that technology diffuses? Now Israel's opponents are up to Congreve rockets. Can no one see the ultimate asymptote? Currently, we are shooting down rockets that cost $1000 for $100000. I doubt this ratio will improve.

You sound confused.

I would ask for citations but there are no non-partisan publications on this issue so I'll ask instead where these children were when killed? Were they by chance in a school or at home next to a rocket launcher set up by Hamas to create just such incidents?

All of the advocates for these malicous, bigoted, human shiled using, terrorists are pussies. It is too bad that Israel was forced to transplant from Europe by the rulers of this land into the loving arms of the most backward thinking humans on the planet who actually believe that losing means they get to dictate terms in a war.
Why do we give these duplicitous freaks the right to live in the same world as the rest of humanity? What benefit do we recieve?
Who are we to reward them with other people's land in 2012?
Ok Iraq is actually a pretty good question. Hopefully we are going to leave and let them get on with their civil war.
Our economy is not on a war footing any less than it has been in the past 50 or 60 years.
How is it practical to abandon our allies? What is the precedent for doing this?
While technology diffuses at the the current rate of attrition there may be 2 guys left at the end of this fight and they will be hitting each other with pointy sticks. I doubt this ratio will improve the relation between the two either.

Well that was fun now can we get back to the business of watching the destruction of yet another "peace" in the ongoing saga of tit for tat that is Israel/Palestine?

The quartet (un, us, europe and russia) have 3 principles regarding the situation

Recognition of Israel
Adherence to existing diplomatic agreements
Renunciation of violence

So everyone is looking towards those goals as a principled, sustainable basis for any ceasefire
