Because people other than white males enjoy television, and it doesn't exactly hurt to see someone that you can relate to on the screen from time to time. Bonus points if he actually has a name.

I don't understand all the rage...it's a group from Kentucky that traveled to Atlanta and has since left Atlanta. They've only even encountered a dozen or so people because most of the population has been wiped out. The shows not about people surviving, not race. Why does there have to be one of every kind and color?

It's only a race thing if you make it that way, stop looking for reasons to be offended and just enjoy this awesome show.

They have BET. Not my problem. Nor should it be yours.

Yes. Separate but equal is the way to go. Every minority group gets one channel and whites split the rest. Why hasn't anyone ever thought of that before? Surely this would be the ideal solution. Segregation ALWAYS works.

It does matter. It matters so much that folks who have reported reading the comics before reading the show have noted that there's a major difference in how non-whites are treated in the comic versus how they're treated on the show.

In the comic, it really is more like 'people are people'. Tyreese is described as Rick's right hand, but not his lackey. In the comic, there is no 'Disagree with the Ricktatorship, Die' clause. So the question for fans becomes.... what will Tyreese's role be in the dynamic of the show, if Tyreese were introduced at this point?

Seven percent of Americans are Black Men. Why do we expect fifty percent of TV characters to be Black men?

fusillade762: How many Asian characters are we allowed? Just one? Is that why they had to kill Evil Glenn last week?

Come on, they have to keep some semblance of reality. There just aren't that many Asians in the world.

Disposable Rob: AverageAmericanGuy: I see. And race is important to you because...?

Because with the show being set around Atlanta, Georgia, statistically more, if not most, of the characters should be black. TV shows set in diverse cities are notoriously always really white (unless they're by David Simon). I'm not one to get overly sensitive about race, but it stands out if you're familiar with the area.

Yeah. A show with mostly black main characters wouldn't last a few episodes on a major network, unless all of the main black characters are criminals and they are being pursued by white folks, or the main black character is a palatable comedian that also pushes pudding pops.

I love this show as much as the next, but I haven't read the comics, but based on the speculations it appears they want a black gay dog to join the cast, prison outfit and all so Rick can have his way with him.

Im just going by what the comments say, because there has been a rash of to many gay farkers lately.

statistically - you are gay. jerk off more to lori.

And did you see the way Daryl looked at him when he explained why he was so excited about the slippers? Daryl didn't look at him like "You are crazy" or "You are a dumb ass", he looked at him like "I get them on Tuesdays and Thursdays".

You blew your load too huh? Macy's is having a sale too - run in high heels....

Fighting through farked-up zombies? Yeah, he's been there.

Thanks to you my vasoline stick is holding out this winter.

So this basically means that Oscar will get exactly enough character development to make us feel something when he gets ganked. Can't have more than two black guys afterall.

Who the hell was Two-dog?

The new guy, the prisoner that was accepted into the group after T-Dog's untimely passing. The guy who likes comfy slippers.

Who doesn't like comfy slippers? Especially after a long day of killing zombies, don't you think it would be nice to take of your boots and slip into a nice pair of slippers?
