Because people other than white males enjoy television, and it doesn't exactly hurt to see someone that you can relate to on the screen from time to time. Bonus points if he actually has a name.

Yeah, that's the name FARK gave him when T-Dog was unceremoniously killed off in one of the first episodes in which he had extensive dialog. Not sure if the new guy is going to suffer the same fate, but he does seem expendable so far...

Who doesn't like comfy slippers? Especially after a long day of killing zombies, don't you think it would be nice to take of your boots and slip into a nice pair of slippers?

And did you see the way Daryl looked at him when he explained why he was so excited about the slippers? Daryl didn't look at him like "You are crazy" or "You are a dumb ass", he looked at him like "I get them on Tuesdays and Thursdays".

So this basically means that Oscar will get exactly enough character development to make us feel something when he gets ganked. Can't have more than two black guys afterall.

AverageAmericanGuy: I see. And race is important to you because...?

Because with the show being set around Atlanta, Georgia, statistically more, if not most, of the characters should be black. TV shows set in diverse cities are notoriously always really white (unless they're by David Simon). I'm not one to get overly sensitive about race, but it stands out if you're familiar with the area.

I love this show as much as the next, but I haven't read the comics, but based on the speculations it appears they want a black gay dog to join the cast, prison outfit and all so Rick can have his way with him.

Im just going by what the comments say, because there has been a rash of to many gay farkers lately.

It's a horror story. All of the sensible black people grabbed a bunch of guns and ran to some place safe as soon as things started getting weird.

It will also be revealed that the zombie virus was spread by a bad batch of mayonnaise.

Yeah. A show with mostly black main characters wouldn't last a few episodes on a major network, unless all of the main black characters are criminals and they are being pursued by white folks, or the main black character is a palatable comedian that also pushes pudding pops.

No, it's a net thing. You'll find it on a lot of Walking Dead boards. I think it's dumb but I get the point of the people who created the nick name (I liked O-Dog to describe his Replacement Token Neg.ro status, myself, but Two-Dog is more blatant about TWD's idiocy).

And I like Oscar. I just don't see any hope of seeing him stick around if they're going to introduce Tyreese.

And, of course, there's the fan speculation about what would happen if MORGAN came back.

Morgan and Tyreese in the same season or within episodes of each other, is that even possible, or would the TWD universe explode?

Solid Muldoon: Seven percent of Americans are Black Men. Why do we expect fifty percent of TV characters to be Black men?

The show is based around Atlanta, Georgia. Don't go to Atlanta if you're expecting not to see a lot of black folk.

Like I said elsewhere, the show is implicit proof that survivors hook up with each other predominantly by race. Just like how everything else works in the real world. That's life.

We don't see the all-black, all-Latino, all-(insert Asian group), all-Indian groups (with smatterings of everyone else, making each other and whites the tokesn) on this show because this show is concerned with the all-white groups. And the one Latino group we did see got annihilated by one of the all-white groups.

WHY ARE THERE NO GAY CHARACTERS?!?!

2012-11-21 02:29:03 AM

TheLopper: Everyone always told me skin color shouldn't matter. Except when it does I guess.

It does matter. It matters so much that folks who have reported reading the comics before reading the show have noted that there's a major difference in how non-whites are treated in the comic versus how they're treated on the show.

In the comic, it really is more like 'people are people'. Tyreese is described as Rick's right hand, but not his lackey. In the comic, there is no 'Disagree with the Ricktatorship, Die' clause. So the question for fans becomes.... what will Tyreese's role be in the dynamic of the show, if Tyreese were introduced at this point?

Gays already got mad at that, over that particular change from comic to show. Doesn't bode well for the Alexandria storyline, if that comes to pass.

Yes. Separate but equal is the way to go. Every minority group gets one channel and whites split the rest. Why hasn't anyone ever thought of that before? Surely this would be the ideal solution. Segregation ALWAYS works.

I think up to this point, the writers are banking that most viewers will know her from the comics, but I don't think that should free them from making her a real human character in the show.

Michonne does nothing more than frown on shenanigans

I expect this to be a gif-enhanced meme shortly.

"They Live" was a really confusing movie because I thought the two bald black dudes were the same guy for most of the movie.

Also, TWD need more albino hermaphrodite amputees.

Many internets to the first person who takes an "Ewan MCcGRergor force pushes., cut to Michonne frowns, cut to Ewan Mcgregor getting force thrown across the room" gif.

Zombie Hitler: AverageAmericanGuy: Zombie Hitler: AverageAmericanGuy: Zombie Hitler: the lord god: Zombie Hitler: AverageAmericanGuy: I see. And race is important to you because...?

Because people other than white males enjoy television, and it doesn't exactly hurt to see someone that you can relate to on the screen from time to time. Bonus points if he actually has a name.

They have BET. Not my problem. Nor should it be yours.

I've been black for years now.

Have you seen the dermatologist about that?

I was going to see one, but I got pulled over twice. So I just went home.

Jeez.. That's farked up. Did you tell them it was a mistake? You gave them the secret Man code, right?

No...I forgot it....

Why don't you tell me how it goes again. I'll buy you a beer at the next meeting.

"AKIA, officer. What seems to be the problem."

See you at the nekst meeting!

Even Sophie had more lines and character development than the T-Dog character. Guy was basically demoted to a glorified extra. Because CAROL is so much more interesting.

The only interesting thing about Carol is how her hair stays so short the entire time.

Tyreese joins the cast, Oscar lives longer than expected, black Doc Stevens joins the group, they meet Morgan eventually, then Gabriel, Heath joins the group and suddenly everyone's racial concerns are resolved.

Saiga410: NeoCortex42: /Episode five out today!

I cannot wait. I just hope that the final twist is not that the man on the radio is actually working in concert with a still alive Clems mother.

I just played the first couple chapters of episode 5 and it's looking good so far. Definitely a brutal start to it, at least.

Unfortunately, I had to spend the first half-hour or so looking through the Steam forum just to figure out a fix to get the damn game to work with the new episode. I guess it has some occasional save file issues when new episodes hit.

PLZ DO NOT SPOIL

I have to work until 3pm today. I plan to play Ep. 5 as soon as I get home.

But yeah, I thought I'd lost everything up to the beginning of episode 4 but found it again when I logged back into XBLA and pulled my saved file.

Don't worry. I would be pretty pissed if I got spoiled before I finish it, as well. I'm just saying that it I'm looking forward to the rest of the episode, since it seems to start off pretty strong. It would be nice to get a spoiler-laden discussion thread later in the week, though. Or at least get a discussion going during the weekly Walking Dead thread.

She hasn't had much to say yet, but the actress is owning it so far

T-Dog was a great character
Already missing him

I just finished it. Two thoughts:

1) Is everyone useless except for Lee and Clem? "Lee, do this incredibly dangerous thing while we stand around and watch."
2) There are no happy endings in the Walking Dead universe. Ever.

I don't understand all the rage...it's a group from Kentucky that traveled to Atlanta and has since left Atlanta. They've only even encountered a dozen or so people because most of the population has been wiped out. The shows not about people surviving, not race. Why does there have to be one of every kind and color?

It's only a race thing if you make it that way, stop looking for reasons to be offended and just enjoy this awesome show.

ExperianScaresCthulhu: Solid Muldoon: Seven percent of Americans are Black Men. Why do we expect fifty percent of TV characters to be Black men?

The show is based around Atlanta, Georgia. Don't go to Atlanta if you're expecting not to see a lot of black folk.

Except that "around Atlanta" != "in Atlanta". And the group originated outside of Atlanta. So there's that.

I guess that means they'll kill off the TOKEN BLACK GUY to make room for this new character, seeing that you can only have one TOKEN BLACK GUY per series at a time.

I'm sure you spend equal time whining about token white guys on black shows and black actors getting "white" parts

/// time to get the fark over it

I just finished it as well, and I agree on both parts. I'm not sure if it was a shorter episode than the previous ones, or it just seemed like it since it didn't seem to let up once it started.

The only problem I had was a hiccup in "tough choices" list at the end. I guess as part of the save file issue, all I got was a list of 5 "Choice title" and "Choice description" entries with percentages. So I have no idea what choices were the big ones.

Overall, I think it was an amazing game. The voice acting, especially for Lee and Clementine, were excellent. I look forward to seeing where Season 2 ends up going with the story.

As much as I'd like to discuss some of the game on here, I don't want to risk posting an potential spoilers this soon after it comes out.

Lionel Mandrake: fusillade762: How many Asian characters are we allowed? Just one? Is that why they had to kill Evil Glenn last week?

Come on, they have to keep some semblance of reality. There just aren't that many Asians in the world.

Don't you get it? The asians ARE the virus.

No. But tune in for that.

Wrong. They reappear in the comic for sure, and rumour has it at least one of their names appear in the call sheets for this season.

1. Doug, Carley(sp?), and Mark seemed to not be useless. But then again, things, happen to them.
2. Agreed.

Just finished. I also got to the end and had the same issue with the percentages, so it's not just you.

No spoilers here, but I am completely satisfied with the ending. Part of it was the strong writing, and the other part was that I played all the way through without changing my actions and I feel like my decisions were consistent with the Lee I wanted to be.

Not just that, but it was...a good movie. Way better than I expected a spinoff adventure game to be.

Yes. Separate but equal is the way to go. Every minority group gets one channel and whites split the rest. Why hasn't anyone ever thought of that before? Surely this would be the ideal solution. Segregation ALWAYS works.

Take it up with Kirkman.
