Shoot.. I'll keep paying for my sat radio as long as I can afford to, it's WELL worth it. So many good channels, so much awesome content.
I think I pay 18 bucks every 3 months. (that's here in the U.S)

I want to be mad, but dammit...I tried to go back to regular radio after satellite and it hurt too much.

Just got the Internet Radio in addition to mine and my father's car radio. I plan on putting The App onto every device in my whole family. Mostly for the purpose of listening to the O&A channel.

My boss and I used to listen to the Steve Harvey Morning Show. What a crock of shiat that was. They talk for three minutes, go to commercial, talk for thirty seconds, play the same shiatty tired R&B songs, go to commercial. I was spoiled rotten by Opie and Anthony talking without break for sometimes an hour and a half.

Here is a trick for all your SiriusXm subscribers out there. Do what I have done the last 3-4 years, call up and tell them you got a half off promotion in the mail for $86 and you would like to apply it to your radio on your line. Either that or say you are going to cancel and keep going until you get to a rep who will offer the half off price. I have been doing that for quite some time because I refuse to pay full price for the service since it is not worth it. A good portion of the stations have turned into your typical station you would hear over the air just with out commercials. The music stations are notorious for poor rotation of tracks and I think I have everything on the Soultown station at least 3 times by now. I still get a lot of enjoyment from Sinatra, news stations, and Area 52/Chill so it is worth that half price fee.

My wife and I are both hooked. I went without for a year or so and didn't realize how much I missed it until I got it back. I just wish they would quit over-compressing the stations in favor adding additional content.

That quote in subby's headline gave me hives.

I think when Sirius took over the music programming most channels didn't improve. Most channels seem to be running a shallower pool then what XM ran with. I also wish they would tone the music DJ's back to XM levels they aren't needed. There are plenty of other things I like about it but I feel the music channels could be programmed better.

Sell your stock now because my sub ends next month and when I don't resub, they are going to tank. I'm not going to go begging discounts and they aren't getting me at the new rates.

Yeah, it's good but way too many stations. Is that something you can complain about? Well, it does drag the audio quality down on a lot of them. The big channels sound fine but the niche stuff is terrible quality.

I'm currently duplicating the playlists of my usual commute station. Then I'll just turn that on in the car and listen to the same 15 songs they always play in that time slot.

My car came with a trial subscription, and they called several times a day for over a week trying to get me to subscribe once the trial was over. I told them multiple times to leave me alone, and the calls only stopped after I called in to tell them I got a new number and gave them a bogus one. Pandora seems to be better for me anyway, but even if it wasn't, SiriusXM will never get a dime from me.

i used to work in retention for sirius/xm people like you were the best. if we had a retention rate above 48% we got a commision from .50 to 3.00 per save depending on various factors. my favorite calls were: caller"im going to cancel my service unless you give it for half off." you were basically giving me free money. so i mean it when i say this that those were the best kind of calls to get.

but i also told my mother i would take care of canceling her service for her... oh my god, that was a horrific experience having to deal with the vast majority of service reps in manilla

I bought a new car a couple years ago (my first ever!), but was unable to keep this "service" off my option package, forcing me to reluctantly subsidize pay-radio. Evidently, car manufactures are paid handsomely to make their radios compatible with sat radio.

That said, after I let the 3-month "free" trial period expire, I was bombarded with letters and telemarketers seeking to convince me to pay for it, so much that I regret giving my dealership my real mailing address and phone number. I won't make that mistake again.

Periodically, the sat channels are "activated" for a short period. Each time I complain to their customer service line, making their reps audibly confirm that they do not have my credit card info, and are not charging me for an undesired service. I like to think this increases the cost of their "free samples". However minutely. it may deter them from doing it in the future.

The sampling rate is so bad I couldn't stand to listen to it. Cancelled it like 4 years ago and haven't missed it. All the S's found like F's. It's like 22khz.

As a person who shorted the crap out of this stock and made a killing, I have to say...

Why the FARK didn't I buy a boatload of this shiat when it was at SIX CENTS a share?

2012-11-21 12:48:34 AM
Sirius turned the service back on in the wife's new car as a teaser, but when we tuned in to one of the rock stations the other day, it sounded like complete shiat. The sampling rate was so bad it hurt every time there was a cymbal crash. We wouldn't resubscribe if they paid us.

I hadn't looked at the stock in so long that when I just went and looked, I almost started crying. I remember when it was down that low and I thought about putting a few hundred bucks into it, but thought, "Well, that would be dumb, they're going to go bankrupt." Damn that would have been a nice return!

/granted, i would have probably sold it when it doubled, so the 100x increase would be a pipe dream anyway

I let my sat radio lapse and I went 4 days before I had to have my NFL Radio channel back.

The price increases are brutal though because there is no competition so they employ monopoly methods. It's downright un-American!

My car got damaged recently (Sandy) and I had to take it to the shop and get a rental. My rental car has a satellite radio, and I'm enjoying it. For the most part, I'm tuned into the Elvis channel. I don't know if I'll get a new car radio that's satellite capable, but it's tempting.

My new car has Sirius... I let the trial subscription expire for exactly that reason. Everything sounds like it's being broadcast from deep inside a coffee can. Streaming Pandora over bluetooth to the vehicle, however, rocks.

There's a secret to Sirius/XM. Just cancel every year. In two weeks, they will offer you a renewal at literally 50% off. For three years in a row now they have tried to get me to sign up at ~$150. I said "No thanks. Cancel my service," and then got a flier for one year for ~$75 and renewed before my service even ran out.

Yeah, so basically this.

You can't blame them for trying, though. Get all the lazy rich people to pay one price, and still make a decent coin on the second tier. Although the more word gets out, the more people will put in the effort to save.

Bought a lifetime subscription years ago, so go ahead, raise rates

XM was so much better before they merged with Sirius. It's like if your favorite steak restaurant got taken over by McDonalds.

Same problem here. I blocked the three numbers they were calling from on my Digitone Call Blocker. One year after the trial expired, they still call -- the calls are in my call log -- but the blocking prevents my phone from ringing.

You haven't been able to get BBC Radio one on Sirius since August 2011 anyway. They dumped it to make way for some crappy generic channel. Which was therefore also the day I cancelled my subscription..

I've gotten various deals over the years. Once it was six months for $26, once it was $95 for the year. keep calling and cancelling till you get one that's worth it.
My wife and I have a comfort level of no more then $10/month. It's just not worth more than that.

PC LOAD LETTER: People who say "synergy" need to be drawn and quartered.

Especially when they use it wrong.

'Cost synergies' means nothing. 'Realizing cost synergies' means nothing. Synergy is the cooperation of two or more factors to reach a goal no one activity or factor could get you to.

SO, using cost cutting AND design improvements to bring profitability to a product line would be synergy between design and material cost cutting, but using the word synergy alone without naming two factors is just doublespeak. It's the Emperor's New Business speak, intended to get investments from people who are technically too stupid to have money, but nonetheless run the entire corporate investosphere.

Yeah, we had/have an FB campaign page organizing people canceling and contacting Sirius in as many was as we could find to express our displeasure. Turns out that a reasonable number of Brit Ex-pats like myself were unamused that week. I suspect it could have been worse for you though - you could have been my wife having to deal with my ranting at the time about it!

6 months for 26 dollars. That's my plan! I'm on my second round of it. I simply set a reminder on m'phone and called to cancel after the initial 6 month period (they hope you will "forget" and not notice when they start charging tariff rates), and when I refused to pay any more - they gave me another 6 months for 26 dollars. Sirius is pretty weak, but it's worth the cost of a Starbucks mocha a month for sure. I love the comedy channels, NPR bonus channels, and some news. For music, nothing beats Spotify.

Unless things have changed and no one noticed, it's only on the net app, not the actual satellite radio hardware. And it's already available online as a free stream anyway..
