If true, which I think it's not, well played.

Sounds legit.

The ORCA team was plenty incompetent on their own.

When will the media learn that Anonymous isn't really even a group? They're an ever-rotating roster of bored geeks, acting sometimes in concert, mostly by themselves, for their own amusement? SOMETIMES they can accomplish wonderful things but, for the most part, they're just pranksters.

2012-11-20 03:07:36 PM
No. Just...stop. Stop trying to call Karl Rove some master criminal who had some way of erasing votes. Stop trying to make Anonymous out to be some sort of Bond hero.

Mitt Romney ran a terrible campaign, and lost the election. Karl Rove convinced some very wealthy people to give him a lot of money. The End.

This. Both of those things.

Smokescreen. Double bluff. An old XK Red 47 technique.

Rove planted the Anonymous story. He knows it will never be proven, or even investigated too much, but he can sell it to some of his donors and maybe not end up in cement shoes for squandering so many millions of their money.

It sounds dubious to me too. Are they saying that this ORCA had hacked into all the voting machines and could change the votes? So if they compromised Rove's system, wouldn't that imply that THEY could have changed the vote count?

This sounds like something from the latest bond movie, not like something real.

Firewalls? Tunnels rats? This makes no sense at all. You hardly need to go out of state to alter an Access database.

Karl Rove a douchebag, an asshole, a dipshiat, a ham.... yes.

A master criminal intent on 'stealing' an election? No.

2012-11-20 04:00:38 PM
IF this were true, and even Kos is banhammering people advancing this silly theory, then Anonymous did a very dumb thing. If they had proof/evidence that ANYONE was trying to manipulate voting machines and DIDN'T turn it over to law enforcement so we could A) start a national discussion about insecure these machines are and B) Nail to the wall the hides of those involved as a warning to others, then all they have done is to allow a future election where they are not so lucky/vigilant to be stolen

2012-11-20 04:00:57 PM
I know it's almost certainly not true, but I almost want it to be true and for a pile of incontrovertible evidence to come out.

The GOP would never recover. This is a scenario I find myself comfortable with.

Seems suspicious that the same machines in Ohio would go down momentarily @ the same time during both the 2004 and 2012 elections.
In 2004, when the machines came back up, the Ohio vote was suddenly flipped in Bush's favor.
In 2012, when the machines came back up, the Ohio vote remained in Obama's favor. And Rove was flummoxed, but obviously he couldn't explain why without giving himself away.

The ultra-nuttery would claim that the emergency patch that got put on those Ohio machines was to reverse the vote counting fraud already on them, since it had become obvious that Ohio wouldn't decide the election and to avoid potential litigation.

No, many voting machines tally to an Access database.

Also, ORCA was a day of election GOTV software application. It wasn't some sort of magic bullet that would give Romney a functioning tax plan or any sort of mass appeal.

All ORCA was designed to do was to remind Romney voters to vote, and it turned out there simply weren't enough of them to matter even IF ORCA wasn't such a huge fail.

Y'all are missing one important aspect of this story.

Thanksgiving is this week and everyone in almost every family has that one person, we'll call him Tea-Bagger Uncle Phil who espouses whatever FOX News has been dishing up. Now, while losing an election should be enough to shut him up we all know it isn't going to.

Which is why this story is the perfect thing to trot out. It's everything we know and love about a good solid tinfoil hat story based on rumor. It's so insane and improbable, unlikely and wacky that there's nothing he's going to be able to come back with.

It's like Christmas early for all of us with an Uncle Phil.
