Ok I'm going on 52. I played a lot of sports in high school and two (soccer and baseball) in college. While there was some hazing there was nothing even close to whatl happened here, which unfortunately seems to be happening all over. I knew friends in fraternities in college and some of their hazing could get pretty brutal and a bit perverted but nothing like this, at least as far as I knew.

Someone help me out, is it really this bad now? Or has it always been this way and I am just naive

I'll just throw in some anecdotal evidence that I played football, basketball and ran track in highschool and there weren't really any hazings at any level, beyond seniors treating you like garbage (but not sticking their hands up your ass...) I made the varsity fball team as a sophomore and was generally treated better for it, not worse. And i don't know any of my friends at the ~15 other central IL highschools I knew who encountered anything like this.

So to answer general questions above, no it isn't happening everywhere. Most people my age (24 now) seemed to think hazing was a weird thing people did in 80s movies.

The stuff I heard from some of my friends who joined frats in college, that's a different story. At least some of the more "popular" (read: jock stereotype) frats were accused of some weird stuff.
