In fact, despite all this talk of Republicans compromising, it is pretty clear to Norquist what is really going to happen: President Obama "will eventually have to extend the tax cuts as is."

He's farking delusional. And he wants to ruin the country. And a large chunk of the GOP has agreed to help him do just that.

The funny thing is that it was his plan to create a fiscal crisis to force the country to dismantle the New Deal. Now that he has his crisis, it's his "coddle the wealthy" plan that looks like it's going to bite the dust.

"The fantasy is that the Republicans would cave on marginal tax rates - they're non-negotiable," he added.

I hope this child throws a tantrum when this is all sorted out. Taxes will be going up for %2ers one way or another. If they try to avoid that they will go up for everyone.

At this point, I don't even wonder if Grover Norquist is into kiddie porn, I just wonder how much kiddie porn will be found on his computer some day.

"You've got a Republican Party that not only touched the third rail of Republican politics but fondled it at great length and didn't end up where all the smart people knew where you'd end up."

Well that's some, uh, interesting imagery there.

I love how an unelected man is dictating the actions of those who were democratically elected by the people. Even George H.W. Bush doesn't like this man in washington. Little king makers and power brokers like him need to be caught in a scandal of their own and indicted. That or have a stroke and stfu.

wait, I don't remember anyone electing him to anything ever so why should any of us care what some fringe lunatic says? Wait, Congressional Republicans you say? Tax pledge? Came up with it when he was a little kid? I don't want to live on this planet anymore

I'm actually fairly confident he's correct. Nobody really thinks this will go smoothly when the clock starts winding down, right?

protectyourlimbs: Are "temporary" tax cuts considered as new taxes also?

Of course. Taxes rates must never, ever, ever increase. Income tax? Nope. Estate tax? Nope. Capital gains tax? Nope. Payroll tax? Sure, that can go up, no problem.

A more cynical person than I might note the differences between the income brackets these taxes impact.

Grover is a funny little man. When he's asked how we can reduce the deficit while not raising any taxes on anyone, ever, his respose is so derpy it's almost hard to believe he's a serious public figure: "the economy will get better".

Yup, that's his plan...the economy will just "get better" and we'll have increased tax revenue from that alone.

Grover Nordquist: the man who's economic plan is basically putting your money down on black 17 and letting the wheel spin.

He PAYS congresscritters to believe it. That's the essence of the "law by auction" system... whoever has the most money gets to determine the law. And usually the winners are the most derpy idiots that don't think they should every pay taxes in any circumstances and should be allowed to steamroll over whomever they please. This is Norquist's lot in life.

That "No New Taxes" pledge is liable to screw over Republicans more than anybody. It confuses a tactic (not raising taxes) with a goal (so-called "smaller government") and makes them prone to be maneuvered into no-win situations since their response to anything is very predictable.
