Who donated the money? Drew Brees personally? Or the Drew Brees Foundation?

Either way, extremely cool.

Brees is Mr. Hurricane Relief.

I'm assuming a lot of his money goes into the foundation. I live in new orleans, and I've never been hit up to donate to the drew brees foundation, seen any advertisements for it, nor do I know anyone who has.*

* that doesn't say much, i don't know anything about anything.

Glad a donation is happening, don't need to hear about it from the person doing the donating.

//Nothing against Breesus, just the way I feel.

Most foundations are funded by their namesake but are open to donations from the public if someone asks. The tax forms are public usually, so it might be possible to find out.

charity is a strange beast. you want the world to be perfect, full of perfect people. but, if you ever try to be charitable, you will realize very quickly that you have to be pragmatic.

going public and saying he's donating will drum up more donations, so, whether you dislike published charity or not, it dramatically increases the amount of good work that gets done.

Again, not ragging on Brees at all, but they have a foundation, say the foundation is donating, just like they said the foundation is donating $2 mil around the NO area over the next year. Trumpeting a cause is not the same thing as saying, "Look, I donated a million bucks because I have a million bucks to donate."

I had the same thought. It's the foundation, not Brees personally. It's not as impressive as if it were out of his checkbook, but still, he puts his name and face out there for the foundation to get the money. I'm sure he has plenty of his money in it, too. Any way you slice it, Brees has been awesome for the city, and his foundation gives money to good causes. He stays out of trouble, actually lives in New Orleans proper (a trick he learned from Archie), and actually can be seen around town. While I don't always agree with his politics, he's a pretty awesome guy.
