I noticed when my kids were toddlers that they loved playing with the box the toys came in as much as or more than the toy itself.

I frequently brought boxes home from work for them to play with and they fought over them.

Obvious tag is perfect.
Every big shipment we get from Amazon (about once a month), I take the box, put it on the livingroom floor, throw some crayons into the mix, and there's a few days worth of entertainment for the kids. Until one of them tried to climb on top of it. But when you get to that point, time's up anyways.

I think you have to factor in number of children and size of child/children. But you can get 5 moving boxes from Home Depot for about $15-$20. I'm a cheapskate, and I find it pays off to be friendly with the folks in your shipping/receiving department.

Kids' toys? Heck, you get a box big enough and put most adults alone in the room, they are going to get into it pretend it's a racecar or a rocket. (Of course, once someone else comes in, they are going to act like it's just a piece of junk box. But we all know the truth.)

Plastic milk jug ring saves you hundreds of dollars a year on the purchase of toys you think are cute, but your cat will sniff and more or less tell you through non-verbal communication that your junk is weak sauce and GTFO.

Yeah, but then your 7 year old son will then put the toddler in a box and try to get him to sled down a flight of stairs. True story, it happened to my younger brother once.
