Tempohousing

Tempohousing is a true pioneer in the use of ISO shipping container frames as a basis for modular homes. It all started in 2002 while celebrating the birthday of one of the founders. Unlike most great stories in bars and at parties, this idea really had to be followed up and that happened. Many students waiting for a home in the densely developed urban area of Amsterdam, hardly any location available for cheap student homes, let alone homes that are mobile, relocatable and yet meet all modern standards for comfort and safety.

Downtown Christchurch New Zealand started doing this soon after the big earthquake as a way to keep businesses alive. Now it has become all super-hipster/trendy. Still very cool though.

So now living in the Rust Belt will involve living in a rust box.

If there is one thing Detroit needs, it is more housing.

Housing projects in Detroit... yeah, okay. #1, there's more houses than people. #2, Detroit just imploded some projects because they were fail in spite of some really famous past residents. #3, housing projects in Detroit?!! Are you farking kidding me?

/I'm sure the city overpaid for them, and someone will run off to Jamaica with the rest of the funds that were supposed to go into the project... then, it'll be a giant clusterfark that will cost Detroit a shiatload of money to settle.

How sad for America. People living like wasteland refugees in abandoned shipping containers.

They have a problem with people stripping the metal out of abandoned homes now. What'll happen when the homes are made out of metal?

They could build this on Zug Island for a nice "Fallout 3" feel.

DetroitDave: Are they bullet-proof ?

I was wondering why anyone would build houses in Detroit, since there are so many empty ones.

Sadly, many unoccupied dwellings get stripped for their metal content. Some houses were abused by their occupants. Some have mold. Some got rained on on the inside.

How dare you imply that Detroit is part of America!

I think they build there because of the pure springs, the fresh air, and the culture of the arts community which contributes so much to the unfortunate in the area.

Wow, this link kinda disturbed me because it's exactly as described in the futuristic book "Ready Player One" that I just finished reading. They call them "the stacks" and it's just like this. So creepy.

It'd quite ironic for some illegal immigrant to end up living in the container they were shipped here in.

A: this is the country where we gave storm victims free residential trailers and they sued us. Whatever those containers were used for at any time in the past, there is a liability trail, a lawyer will exploit it the instant someone gets sick.

B: This is the country where Jeremy Clarkson gave a Katrina family a used car for free and they sued him because it wasnt the model year car he thought it was.

C: Leave poor Rosa Parks alone and quit building housing projects on top of her.

I saw people living in what appeared to be unmodified shipping containers on the outskirts of Tomsk in Siberia. I suppose they must have been modified for ventilation but apart from that they appeared just like any other shipping container.

Wasn't there a shipping container shortage about a year ago?? Sure its cool, but you quickly run out of resources whenever China's economy picks up.

They talk about reducing energy costs by 80% with ductless heating/ac and tankless water heaters. Is that 80% reduction before or after the 500% increase in energy costs associated with having highly conductive aluminum or corten walls, ceilings, and floors?

NephilimNexus: Ah, another insightful post from someone who's never once set foot south of Eight Mile.

I've been south of Eight Mile plenty of times... to go to Windsor! HAHAHA!

/worked in the city before, parents worked downtown.
/Are you related to someone on the City Council? Did you call a certain bald guy "Shrek"? Detroit's a joke because the government puts the dumb in dysfunction... but white people stole the money, or something. Like that biatch & her husband who swiped the firefighter's pension thing, which was just white people being bad & not the usual stupid ass scheme that bleeds Detroit dry. Happy now?
