(Daily Kos)   In the final tally of votes cast during the election, Obama got over 50% of the vote. Guess what percentage Mitt Romney may be getting?   (dailykos.com ) divider line

Coco LaFemme: Even if we didn't have the Electoral College and the popular vote determined the presidency, that's still too many people voting for batshiat insane lunatics every 4 years. I'll start to get more comfortable when that number gets closer and closer to 40%.

I know. 47% of the people in this country either want it to be a theocracy with limited rights for women and homosexuals, or they're okay with that so long as their taxes go down a little. It's insane.

I'm not upset by Kos being petty and pathetic, just noting it.
But thanks for your concern.

You're very welcome.

Doc Daneeka: Imagine. If Obama were only a Republican, these results would represent a clear mandate to do whatever he wanted.

Instead, since he's a Democrat, it's only a squeaker of a victory, with no mandate. The only mandate to be found is the mandate for House Republicans to install the Romney-Ryan tax plan anyway.

Wouldn't the easiest thing be to finally acknowledge that Obama is a moderate Reagan Republican, as he has always been?

Shaggy_C: mrshowrules: Obama was the first Democratic President to be re-elected with a popular vote majority since Franklin D. Roosevelt.

And the first president in the modern era to be re-elected from either party with a smaller share of the vote the second time than the first time.

The point? There is none, it's a different country today than it was eighty years ago. In fact, it just makes Democrats look bad over that timeframe that they could only win re-election in years where there were strong third-party candidates.

Well the thread is about % vote and the re-election so it doesn't have to mean much more than that. Getting re-elected with a majority vote is significant. It provides at least some type of mandate.

Because it's 10 less than 57, as in John Kerry's Heinz 57.

Obama is closing mental hospitals and unleashing hordes of mentally unstable people to commit crimes, and then pretend the prison system is a good substitute?

Obama is ignoring all of the science behind HIV/AIDS because he's convinced it won't affect straight people?

Obama added hundreds of thousands of government jobs?

St. Reagan isn't all the GOP has rewritten him to be. In all fairness, Jesus wasn't the anti-healthcare, f#$k the poor (they have bootstraps), hate thy neighbor guy they rewrote him to be either.

I was attempting to speak Republican. I have to admit that my vocabulary is limited, and my accent is terrible.

Romney's 47% comment

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them...

The Why Not Guy: Good. Hopefully that means the GOP candidate will take 30.49% of the vote in 2016.

Personally, I'd prefer somebody 'in touch' and sane.

As a moderate libertarian, I felt this contest was Romney's to lose, and he managed it. I was cheering for Obama by the end.

I would too, but 2016 is too soon to expect that from the Republican Party of 2012. Political parties don't turn on a dime. It takes years for them to make even a simple course adjustment, and I haven't heard very many voices from the Right even admitting such an adjustment is necessary. We'll get a Derp candidate from the Republicans in 2016, especially if the GOP picks up seats in 2014, but if we're very lucky, we might get your "in touch" and "sane" Republican candidate in 2020.

Two weeks ago, he was surrounded by an small army of Secret Service agents. He traveled in multiple-car motorcades.

And now, 14 days later, he's alone, at night, pumping his own gas.
