What do you call the first reproduction of a work? The original copy, of course.

I demand to see the original long-form declaration before we let them back into the US.

Deep within my heart, there's a sss-melody
Of Rose of old San Antone,
And it caused a stir when they deported her,
For she forgot the Alamo.

Oh, her hair reminds me of the deep blue sea:
Not wild, not wavy, it just makes me sick.
It was plain so see that her anatomy
Was beaten with an ugly stick.

She was pickin' cotton in old Mexico
And pluckin' chickens to make some dough.
Headed for the border, ridin' on a hoss,
Then that cotton-pickin' chicken plucker came across.

Out behind the hockshop, there we met and kissed.
I tried to get her alone.
Then I took her out in the moonlight and mist [or "missed"?]
My Rose, my Rose of San Antone.

Now old Rose is gone, and I've lost my love
And for her kisses I yearn.
Now I know she's with the angels up above
'Cause she was just too tough to burn.

Try this:

We sailed here hard to there.

And here we breached.

We sank 'ere briefly, and came back alive, on rafts above.

We rose above.

On rafts.

taurusowner: johnsmith99: How long has Texas been blathering on about independence? They're like a 24 year old kid who won't move out of the basement. Get on with it already!

I hope the they. And they could theoretically pull it off. They have a coastline, they're not locked inside the US (as a state such as Wyoming for example, would be). They've got a pretty decent sized population, lots of natural resources. Their stats guard (not army national guard) might be able to step up and take on the role of a military. Fresh water and food production might be problems though.

This is all amusing they don't have to fight a war for independence. If they did, they'd get smashed pretty easily. I'm just saying that if any state in the US has to revert to being its own nation, Texas would be pretty close to the top of states who could pull it off. So could Cali for that matter, though their people would probably run their new country into the ground with social spending.

Yep. Having their own power grid is icing on the cake.

You say that like the opinion of the rest of the U.S. and the world matters. Thus falling into the same logical fallacy that you are accusing Texans of, an inflated sense of self-importance.

I read somewhere that because Texans pay the federal government a dollar for every eighty cents we get back, we could secede and take a large tax cut.

This isn't true.

That eighty cents we get back is crammed full of federal mandated bullshiat. We only need a fraction of that.

It's a tough call. Texans love their country and don't want to abandon it to the fiscal cliff it's driving towards.

Imagine how screwed this country would be without Texas! On employment statistics alone, or energy alone, it's a stark picture. Texas would probably be wealthier on its own, but how would we stop the flood of refugees from blue states who want a decent life for their families?

The giant amount of limestone just under the surface dirt doesn't help, either. You ever tried clearing that crap? It's no fun.

It ain't sea level. Limestone is one reason- the clay soil, prone to expansion/contraction, is another.

But the main thing is that a need to make a foundation below the FROST LINE is the primary reason for digging a basement. Texas doesn't freeze for prolonged periods, so we don't have much use for them.

Chances are you will keep buying our oil. Do you know what percentage of America's energy goes through Texas at some point? It's over 90%.

Do you realize that your stereotyping of Texan culture is both ignorant and bigoted?

Do you realize that Texas has a disproportionately heavy percentage of both defense contractors and combat soldiers? Also has two of the most advanced installations in the country.

The main problem Texas would have would be keeping refugee immigration under control.

But alas, I don't think Texans want to leave the USA. We want the USA to stop shooting itself in the foot with mooching.

Do you realize nobody gives a shiat about "Texas Culture" except Texas? Does Texas realize that every time they spout off about secession, they sound like whiney, un-American brats? Does Texas understand that it's the loud mouthed jerk-off of the United States neighborhood, and we wish it would take down it's Christmas lights in June and stop parking it's POS rusty chevelle on the street?

Texas should stop talking so much and maybe listen for a while.
