Mr. Hamilton, according to his partner, Michael Cossey, was stressed about his business and had said that if President Barack Obama were re-elected, "I'm not going to be around." Police found his will, upon which was scrawled "F--- Obama."

I'm sure St, Peter will be happy to accept this guy into Heav...wait a minute...he commited suicide, the only sin for which you cannot repent. Oh. Well, Enjoy Hell, Mr. Hamilton. I'm sure Barack Obama is tossing and turning because of your stupidity.

The sad/good thing about it is that when he came up with this plan I'm SURE he thought it would rock the world. CNN at his funeral. Reporters asking what could have drove a man to do this. He probably thought Congress would demand hearings into Obama's suicide-inducing policies. But instead, he's a punchline. He's a story that people shake their heads about for five seconds before moving on and never thinking about him again. His final plan failed.

This guy's death is more a comment on the sad state of our mental health care in this country than conservative double think and doomcalling.

I like how TFA explicitly notes that the media isn't to blame for suicides, and then blames the media for suicides in the next breath.

It is not the responsibility of the 99.99999% of the population that aren't poorly-medicated schizophrenics to walk on eggshells so they don't do anything that might potentially set off a crazy person's crazy, random op-ed guy, it's the responsibility of the crazy farkers to take their meds. Society has already met its obligations by subsidizing crazy mccrazyson's medication and diagnosis through the insurance pools, at some point you can't pass the buck to random entertainers anymore.

//Any time you hear an argument that could equally be used to imply that John Lennon got what was coming to him by inciting his assassin with his fame, you can probably guess that the writer of said argument is a farking idiot.

We already know Republican political pundits basically depend on people to believe what they say without thinking. One subset of that group is the clinically insane. Those then go on to kill other people (e.g. George Tiller) or themselves (Henry Hamilton). A consequence of free speech? Perhaps. Another consequence is that eventually, as you spend more and more time yelling about people getting abortions, black people getting free stuff, and Mexicans getting to stay in the US, some people will still listen to you, but more and more people will stop...

Wait, Fox News ratings are still relatively high? Well, never mind then.

I'm quite certain the hysterical rhetoric being spouted non-stop 24/7 by the right-wing media had nothing at all to do with this.

it clearly did - it gave him a reason to kill himself. Most healthy people don't kill themselves, even when given a reason.

Normally, here's where I'd suggest that tfa's author's been reading my previous week's Fark posts, but I see it's Leonard Pitts. Mr. Pitts and I apparently share the same brain -- we'll usually reach the exact same conclusion given the same set of information.

(He can write, though. I usually ramble.)

"One hopes, without any real expectation, that Mr. Hamilton's death will give pause to the flame throwers on the right. One hopes, without any real expectation, that somebody will feel a twinge of conscience. Or shame.

"But that will not happen."

Of course not. As it becomes more and more obvious how talk radio's inflaming crazy people and the hosts are publicly called on it, Limbaugh for one is going to claim that he's the real victim. He'll further claim that the critics are elitists who personally hate every one of his listeners.

Ah yes. How to win back the people who voted Democrat this election? Why, by insulting them, of course!

GOP: "I wonder why the selfish, slutty, single women and the lazy, mooching, government-dependent minorities didn't vote for us this time. How can we get their vote?"
Everyone else: "Uh, maybe you wanna walk that back a little."
GOP: "Okay, okay. How can we win back the votes of these completely amoral, godless morons?"
Everyone else: "Um... yeah, still not quite there."
GOP: "Really?! Fine. Please, stupid, uninformed idiot voters, get informed! Vote Republican!"
Everyone else: *facepalm*

They love America. The wrong kind of Americans are just like the boy America is dating when thye know it should be themselves. They will monitor America. They will be here for America. And, if they get their chance, they will get rid of the other guy, even bring down America, itself, if that means they can re-build a better America in a better place.

They are America's stalkers.
