Let the Sky Wizard strike them down!

I really don't know who is worse here, the whiny Christians that can't take it, or the whiny atheists who just want someone to pay attention to them.

Without the "whiny atheists" to counterbalance the whack-job fundies, the US would start to resemble a Christian Iran. Mandatory prayer in school, government installed religious propaganda, rights of minorities would be trampled into dust.

Man, these militant atheists are everywhere! I just read about some other guy doing the exact same thing!

Don't get me wrong, I think religion has NO place in government and it is VERY critical that we remain far removed from a theocracy. But one should pick battles more carefully. Does anyone REALLY care if someone wants to put up a Nativity scene? That energy could be better spent ensuring that creationism is not taught in public schools under the guise of science.

2012-11-19 08:52:58 AM
And nobody would be paying attention to the whores if the Christians hadn't vandalized the atheists displays.

But since they think they are absolutely 100% by god correct in their choice of worship they don't believe in "equal protection under the law".

yes, before who demand the first amendment be respected

false dichotomy. doing one does not preclude the other.

PreMortem: And nobody would be paying attention to the whores if the Christians hadn't vandalized the atheists displays.

Their role outside court highlights a tactical shift as atheists evolve into a vocal minority eager to get their non-beliefs into the public square as never before.

Remember folks, if you don't believe Christianity, you believe nothing.

Kazan: false dichotomy. doing one does not preclude the other.

No, it doesn't, but doing one thing is actually useful. Doing the other is just pissing into the wind.

"If these church groups insist that these public spaces are going to be dominated by a Christian message, we'll just get in the game - and that changes everything."

Boom. Game Over.

Leave it to Fox News to provide the attention. Is the War on Christmas as bad or worse than Benghazi?

I know who is worse: the whiny attention whore Christians who only want to set up their nativity display because they are whiny attention whores.

Of course, because you and subby both are worthless bigots, somehow you only saw the atheists here as attention whores...

I know. It's only wrong when atheists do it. I know.

We can't let those people have their Christmas display. Quick! Do something to stop their innocuous tradition.

"If you've been anxiously waiting for the first of this holiday season's "atheists acting like a bunch of attention whores" stories..."

No, but I have been anxiously awaiting the first batch of "OMG! three people in a nation of 315 million are ruining our holiday!" stories from Fox. You can set your watch to them.

One thing always bothered me.
Joseph was a carpenter.
Jesus became a carpenter.
But in any of the depictions you see of these guys, it's like furniture is pretty sparse.
Maybe it's the "cobbler's kids go barefoot" syndrome.
Just seems to me that they would have better furniture.

jaylectricity: "If these church groups insist that these public spaces are going to be dominated by a Christian message, we'll just get in the game - and that changes everything."

Boom. Game Over.

The tactic has worked with more important things, too. Like that holy roller lady in the TX legislature who was all for tax-payer vouchers to send kids to religious schools. Until she realized it meant all religious schools, and not just Christian ones.

2012-11-19 10:11:30 AM

The secular coalition won 18 of 21 spaces. The two others went to the traditional Christmas displays and one to a Hanukkah display.
...
The decision to ban the displays also saves the city, which had administered the cumbersome lottery process used to award booths, both time and money while preserving the park's aesthetics, she said.

Ha ha! Your god didn't want you to have those spaces!

Yes, TFA is a repeat of a very recent article.

Am I reading it wrong or did the atheists just put up their own display and it was the city that turned into douchebags and took down theirs and the nativity scene?

Pockafrusta: Do something to stop their innocuous tradition.

On it's own, it may be innocuous but taken as the symbol that it actually is, it shouldn't be allowed on public land. What if a group of Muslims wanted to do a holiday display for one of their holidays? I bet there would be OUTRAGE from the right Christians.

Religion needs to get out of public spaces, out of our schools, out of our politics. All religions.

Bullshiat. The insane Christians only get traction in the CSA and other places with low population, high cattle.

The cultural centers are still governed by the vast neutral majority who only want ya'll to shut up and let us have fun.

The only reason we're talking about the "holiday season" four days before Thanksgiving is because there aren't enough people holding the line.

Only Christians should have freedom of speech about their religious beliefs, amirite?

And definitely only Christians deserve the right to use public property to publicize their beliefs. Anyone else using public space is oppressing them and SHUT UP

Nothing personal, but you are a complete moron. And, of course, you just proved his whole point. Somehow, the fact that subby referred to atheists expressing their point of view as "attention whores" didn't prompt you to call anyone a bigot. It was only when someone dared suggest that the "attention whore" appellation applied equally to the Christians in the story that you decided to call someone a bigot. That's because of your own double standard, founded in your own bigotry.

Attention whores gunna attention whore. Meanwhile, I'll be celebrating Christmas with my family, girlfriend, and friends not giving a shiat what these atheist say or do.

If only all people, Christian, anther, or otherwise, spent more time worrying about themselves than about others. If only.

Autocorrect fail. "Anther" is suppose to be atheist.

"It's a sad, sad commentary on the attitudes of the day that a nearly 60-year-old Christmas tradition is now having to hunt for a home, something like our savior had to hunt for a place to be born because the world was not interested" would make a good headline for this article.

Second story about the same issue in an hour. Good work mods! You're certainly doing your jobs at whipping the atheist-tards into a frenzy a full 35 days before Christmas.

what happened to "separation of church and state"?

This. Well said.

Can someone please explain to me why when Christians want to display a nativity scene on public property, that they're not attention whores, but when atheists want to express their views on public property, they are? Is there any rationalization not founded in bigotry?

2012-11-19 10:19:26 AM
I wished the Muslims were into imagery, just to see the looks on the Christains faces when it came time for a month long Ramadan scene.

I might be a tad bit simple minded (or under caffinated), but what's the point in making a display for something you DON'T believe in? I don't believe in the Easter Bunny but I'm not making a big display out of it. Like it or not, Christmas started out as a Christian holiday. Yeah I know, now it's a holiday for retailers more than anything. But I'm not out protesting Passover just because I don't celebrate it.

Not that I don't agree with you, I do. But people are going to point out how Christmas was a reskinned pagan holiday.

It's a cause they believe in, not a deity.

FTFA: It's a sad, sad commentary on the attitudes of the day that a nearly 60-year-old Christmas tradition is now having to hunt for a home.

Translation: "We were violating the Constitution for 60 years and somebody finally complained, so the city had to stop violating it and be inclusive, which led to so many administrative headaches that they decided to can the whole thing."

I would generally agree that holiday display shouldn't go out of their way to put others down, but canning the displays rather than fixing the process was the city's decision, and asking the city to uphold the law is not a bad thing.
