^ I think Ive read about them before they were buying ammo from China, the Baltics and places where they make a lower quality AK and SKS ammo and jacking up the prices and selling it to the allies to use in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think there was another company that got busted for saying they were making the ammo here but just repackaging old ammo and selling it.

That and often the contract bids are vetted by an independent reviewing agency. While in theory this helps eliminate preference hiring, the reality is that someone who knows NOTHING about the business they are reviewing for makes decisions for those that will be living with that decision. Since the reviewing agency is not invested too heavily in the outcome, they perhaps don't perform as much due diligence.

The ammo was supposed to be used to supply Afghan and Iraqi Army troops, both of whom still had boatloads of Russian made guns and it was considered easier to keep them using what they were used to than to make them all swap for NATO standard gear (to say nothing of the fact that we had a bit of ammo shortage at the time for NATO calibers)

I remember reading about that contract. Basically they owned a small time arms co because one of the guys uncles was in the biz and he had enough of a rep. So this kid went out on his own and was filling small time contracts with the gov building up a rep. Back then there was so much money flowing around with all the post 9/11 bush bs. If you filled the previous contracts and underbid people you kept getting them. It's an automatic system; almost. Then this big ass contract rolled in and they got it. By underbidding legit people. Only thing was they had no way to fill it. And 7.62 still isn't in huge stocks like it was just post cold war. So they went around grabing rusty shiat from around the world. Then eventually got called out on it.

Now he is sucking dick to make ends meet. Very fitting. Too bad more people from the bush era don't have to do that. Most of them were smart enough to stay very rich.

IIRC they knew they were going to have a problem filling the order and contacted the govt telling them where the ammo was coming from, and the govt gave them the thumbs up.

I've never had any real problems with NORINCO ammo. You can't re-load it but the military doesn't anyway.

That's not Wolf brand ammo in the picture? Every time I go to our public range, I find somewhere in the area of 17,000,000 of these cases on the ground. And since they're not brass, they don't deform as much when you step on them, meaning that occasionally someone's foot will roll.....while holding a weapon. Not very safe. I hate these youngsters who don't clean up their brass.

Of course, I suppose I could shell out and go to a private range. But I'm cheap...another reason I handload.

Considering the amount of bullets that Afghan allies shoot at US personnel, maybe the guy deserves a medal for selling chinese knock-offs.
