The guy who performs exorcisms is the sane one in the GOP.

What a tremendously courageous man he is. I'll be eagerly looking forward to hearing his strongly-held convictions on other settled issues in the future.

Yeah, do you mean that their contemptuous medieval beliefs are stupid, or that it was just stupid to get caught saying those things out loud right before an election?

Well, it's all relative.

Technically, it is in advance of the next GOP loss.

What are his thoughts on volcanos?

2012-11-19 09:57:26 AM
The mistake was that they revealed their beliefs in public before an election. What are the odds that Jindal also thinks that rape is a gift from God and that women's bodies have ways of shutting it down?

2012-11-19 10:25:15 AM
Derpin Bobby Jindal acts like he's trying hard to force his way back into the national conversation for 2016.

I say he's a lot of hot air. A volcano of hot air. That should be monitored.

Given that he's more than a little friendly to Creationism and Intelligent Design, probably the latter.

Aww, he thinks they like him for anything other than a token. It's adorable.

The only "mistake" was in speaking publicly about their beliefs. Supposed to keep that under wraps until elected.

Shh! It's really hard to sound moderate without actually refuting anything the radical right believes. It's a tightrope that every Republican with national ambitions has to walk and you keep blaring your damned air horn.

2012-11-19 11:03:06 AM
Well, there goes any chance B. PIYUSH Jindal might have ever had of even appearing in the 2016 GO primary. He'll probably still be allowed to be in the audience during the debates, in orbit around Chris Christie.

That question gives him an easy out.

The question should be, "Do you think the planet is older than a million years?". That would separate the nutters from rest of us.

If he and Christie can keep up the facade they have a good shot of taking the presidency in 2016. All they have to do is make some moderate noises without actually moderating policy, because that's all centrist liberals really care about.

Actually, the press hushed it up completely when it was clear that the people to which Obama was referring didn't respond by buying up guns and using their churches as political pulpits. Boy, was he wrong about them!

Are we seeing the long prophesied 'Republican Civil War' starting here?

At the very least, we're seeing an open schism between the 'old ways'(pre-election loss) and those with the 'insane' idea of trying to appeal to moderate Americans again...

You know, I thought that the Election Season would be the greatest thing ever, and it was, don't get me wrong...but it looks like the band is coming back on stage for an encore or two or five.

2012-11-19 11:28:44 AM
Yeah, he's trying to set himself up as spokesman for the not insane wing of the party. Sometime around the 2014 elections he'll check if that's working and decide if he wants to stick with it or get born again again.

If we are it isn't because of Jindal. This is just another try at what Republicans always say, which is that the spin of the belief is the problem not the belief itself. Jindal didn't refute anything Akin et al. said about rape or abortion rights. He just said they were dumb for saying it out loud. It's the oldest trick in the GOP book. You say something that sounds moderate but either avoid contradicting or subtly approve of the radical views of the base. That's how Republicans have been placating their base and appealing to moderates on the national scene since Nixon.

So you're not angry that they SAY (and believe) stupid things, just that the press reports on it?

It's just simple numbers. The press reports most of the blatantly dumb things that any politician says on either side of the aisle, but it's one side that has the preponderance of stupid comments, so it merely looks lopsided. If the republicans would stop staying stupid things, the press would not have anything to report on the "stupid things politicians say" front.

Yeah, vote Libertarian, THAT'S the answer. Certainly no crackpots there...
