I refuse to believe these uniforms were even remotely good-looking even by 1934 standards. I mean geez the fact that people got rid of them is a big red flag in itself you'd think.

given the Steelers humble beginnings, I'd go with they were second-hand rugby or soccer shirts, or perhaps some local college.

Several of the old original NFL teams wore hand-me-down college jerseys. The Chicago Bears wore University of Illinois, explaining the identical color scheme, as well as one of the Bears throwbacks looking like its trying to be those 1920 Red Grange/Bob Zuppke University of Illinois shirts. Good thing there wasn't a Chief logo on them back then, cause that would have had to come off.

College was a very big deal in the 1920s. The NFL, not so much. As recently as the 1950s the NFL was considered something of a 2nd rate league, definitely behind baseball (and college football, and boxing) as the main national sports.

It wasn't until the big TV contracts started in the 1960s that this really changed, though some would argue the 1958 title game showing how the public along the east coast felt about live NFL football on TV when it involved a New York team that included Frank Gifford.

My grandparents were season ticket Chicago Bears fans, often sat at Wrigley Field among 20,000 to 30,000 crowds. The immense stadia we think of as NFL didn't really happen til the 1960s either.

In the days of small black and white TVs, stripes like that helped identify the teams. We've retired those TVs and we should not bring back those uniforms.

Broncos hold the record for worst throwbacks. Still, it's possible to pay homage to the old stuff without having to copy the design verbatim.

Also, Leftwich is probably out next week due to injury (as was obvious at the end of the game). Your guess is as good as mine as to who will be QBing against the Browns.

I liked the uniforms.

They should bring back the "rugby" feel of the football game. You can see some of it in the no huddle offense. You could come up with two offensive squads--as long as you were more of a run team--then use them on alternating possessions. Of course, your defense would have to be conventional and capable.

Commercial TV broadcasting began in 1941. Those hideous uniforms were made for radio.

But...they are terrible. Doesn't have anything to do with them being different, has everything to do with mustard colored pants and prison guard (or honey bee) striped jerseys in a completely different shade of yellow than the pants. And the ugly block numbering. Also Twitter sucks.

Anyway, I'm with Collinsworth, instead of throwbacks, why not try to come up with something futuristic looking? The unis are pretty plain right now, classic looking if you want to be polite about it. Lets see some weird stripes or something, some lightning bolts, something slick. Redesign the logo, change up the colors, stop being lazy and using old designs, which really only prove they made a good choice by ditching them.

Hell Nike can come up with some weird shiat, they can borrow the design team from Oregon's unis.

Might be the first time in a decade or so the Browns QB is better than the Steelers'.

MLB did that about a decade ago. Those uniforms were terrible. i forget who, I think Pittsburgh (ironically enough) or perhaps Houston had some kidn of metallic shiny fabric. Just an awful look.

You can't make out the numbers very well on those things. I had no problem identifying the Ravens players numbers, but the Steelers? Forget it.
And it wasn't just me, at one point in time the Steeler fans were yelling "Heath" when Paulson caught a pass.

The throwback unis are all about selling a third or fourth uni set to fans who are willing to shell out another $100 or more. But I didn't see a lot of fans wearing 'em in the stands, so my guess is you'll see the bumblebee uniforms fade away.

Nobody misses Kordell Stewart.
Actually, this year's O Line is the best its' been in years. The athleticism of Big Ben overshadows how well the O Line functions as a unit. Batch is not a mobile QB, and that's the entire scheme of the offense; making plays that can go outside of the pocket. This is the first time that Todd Haley actually had a mobile QB who can improvise. We saw what Leftwich can do on the opening drive given the chance, but every single play after that opening drive was geared to the QB just "managing the game". Granted, dropped passes didn't help, and neither did trying to run against Bmore's stingy defense.

Both teams knew going in that neither offense nor defense was going to win the game; it came down to special teams and clock management. There was only one offensive touchdown scored in the entire game, and Pittsburgh outgained Bmore in yardage. Their O Line certainly is better than most. They rely upon the reincarnation of John Elway and Steve Young to carry the team. And yes, ben Roethlisbetger IS THAT GOOD.
