Going by the most basic definition of a species as learned by thousands during their first biology class: isn't every individual an entire species as they can't interbreed?

It's moreso about reproduction. Reproducing asexually means you can have a species of genetically identical (more or less) individuals that don't breed with themselves.

As I understand it, the foreign DNA gets incorporated after periods of dormancy to repair cellular damage. So I hear anyway. Dunno if that's just a hypothesis or what.
