Some of those *seem* tasty.... as a side dish.

That made me sad.

Vegans: telling Hindus they are cruel to animals since 1806.

I don't get the hate for vegetarianism/veganism. Yes, some of them can be obnoxious douchebags, but the same can be said for any group of people; they're no different or special. I happen to like vegetarian and vegan dishes as much as dishes that have meat in them. I would be comfortable at either group of people's dinner table, no matter what they served.

Just because Thanksgiving is traditionally loaded with meat, doesn't mean people who don't eat meat have to sleep through Thursday to get to Friday. That's ridiculous.

Why are you bringing up 'hate'? We just think this food is gross.

Because invariably when threads about vegetarians or vegans show up, commentary devolves into how stupid/gross/weird they are, even if the linked article is about food and not people. It was a general statement, not a specific comment on a specific post. It gets old, mostly because my boyfriend and I have a lot of friends of the non-meat eater persuasion, and while I don't doubt there are douchebag vegans, we certainly have never met any.

As for thinking the food is gross, I think that's a bit narrow-minded, but I also think cottage cheese looks like something a woman goes to the gynecologist for and I won't touch the stuff. So what do I know. There's a lot of food out there you may not know you like until you stick a fork in your mouth and chew. I used to think Brussels sprouts were disgusting until I tried them roasted, now I can't get enough of them. I also used to hate tofu, but one of my closest friends is vegan and cooks with it a lot, and rather than being rude when invited to dinner, I tried it and discovered I liked it.

These would go great with some turkey. I may include one or two of these next week...

"Chauvinism, in its original and primary meaning, is an exaggerated, bellicose patriotism and a belief in national superiority and glory. It is an eponym of a possibly fictional French soldier Nicolas Chauvin who was credited with many superhuman feats in the Napoleonic wars.

"By extension, it has come to include an extreme and unreasoning partisanship on behalf of any group to which one belongs, especially when the partisanship includes malice and hatred towards rival groups."

In short, "human nature."

Why does it have to be about the food?

Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for family to come together to fight.

That's the problem. It doesn't taste good. It's an abomination for any human to subject themselves to such torture.

Rosemary Lentil loaf? PUKE...VOMIT.... Thanks, ill be having deep fried turkey, chickens, giblet gravy and mashed potatoes, with stuffing and green bean casserole with those little dried onion things on top. Oh yes, and beer, lots of beer.

Also, beer can't be vegan because the little yeasty beasties are alive and drinking them is murder. Same with secondary fermentation whereby they get poisoned to death in alcohol, which is their own shiat. Would you say drowning a cow in manure or just eating it alive is humane? No? Sorry vegans, no alcohol for you.

You answered your own question. It's the obnoxious douche-bags that tend to be the most vocal, and are therefore become the de-facto representatives for any identifiable group. All it takes is for one smug, self-righteous vegan to demand that everyone replace their traditional turkey with tofurkey, and soon everyone associates vegans with close-minded bigotry.

Some people enjoy taking a shyte on their sexual partner.

That doesn't mean there needs to be a g'damn thread greenlit about people shyting on each other every day.

Enough with the farking "vegan" bullshyte on the main page, it's almost as stupid as all the farking "petition" threads.

I have only known two vegetarian/vegan people, a married couple (vegan wife, veg husband) and the experience of them was just terrible. I know not ALL vegans are like them, but it's the only reference I have.

The also didn't drink which may be why I prejudge non-drinkers too.

I have been a vegetarian for about 21 years.
Full disclosure, about 2 years ago, I forayed into fish, but have since reverted.

I do eat some dairy here and there.

In those 21 years, I generally held back all discussions about my diet choices, and never really broadcasted it. I also never admonished anyoen for their dietary choices.

There were WAY too many people who wanted to debate me (meat eaters).

Talk about douchebags.

Good thing you posted so the next vegan thread someone can post "I don't get the vegan hate" two posts in because they know a fool will be along to make their point.

Anyway, I don't think normal people hate vegetarians or vegans. In my experience normal folks hate proselytizers who feel the need to convert you or ridicule your choices that don't match theirs...but personally I dislike that on any subject, including jackasses like this idiot or people who post "for every animal you don't eat I eat two".

There are delicious vegetarian dishes, if you don't think so, chances are you haven't been exposed to much delicious food of any persuasion, vegetarian or not.

There are delicious dishes containing meat. I'll continue enjoying both without the need to make it a partisan issue.

Some of those look pretty damn good.

Vegetarians desperately looking for meat substitutes like the Veggieducken are just pathetic, but pure veggie that doesn't worry about meat at all can be fantastic.

Is it just me, or did a bunch of that stuff look like (and probably is as appetizing as) prison punishment loaf?

Vegetarian, I kinda get. I mean, it's not for me, but whatever. I even have an occasional vegetarian meal.

Vegan, on the other hand, is just plain batshiat crazy.

Refined soy products are gross. Switch back to real food and you'll lose the gynecomastia as well.

I will be grilling a turkey on Thursday and eating meat every day of my life. However, some of those looked delicious. I will probably be trying the stuffed acorn squash recipes. They are one of my favorite winter veggies.

Tofu, on the other hand, is the devil's toe jam.

I have added the following recipes to my massive collection of recipes:
2. Creole Spiced Butternut Squash & Sweet Potato Soup With Vegan Parmesan Croutons
4. Roasted Tomato & Fennel Bisque
5. White & Green Beans
15. Potato & Portobello Mushroom Gratin

They actually look and sound tasty. Of course, I appreciate the irony of my reading those recipes while eating some beef jerky.

Wow, those look tasty! Thanks, Subby!

I've done a very similar butternut squash and sweet potato soup for years. I usually bring it to the Thanks Giving potluck at work.

We love meat here, but still try to go meatless for one or two meals a day. It's not hard, but I draw the line at tofu. A little soy is ok, but some of the side effects of over-consumption I read about are scary.
