Double threepeat? Is that 6 championships

Alonso hasn't looked too good but he'll pull something out

Seb/hamilton/alonso, no championship this week

double threepeat? Is this about the Jordan/Pippen Bulls?

Just in from Sky Sports: Massa taking a 5 spot penalty for a gear box change. Ferrari not really hiding that this was done to give both Alonso and Massa grid spots on the outside, or clear side of the grid.

More Ferrari BS.

I'm amazed that it looks like they are going to pull off the race. The track has been a cluster since it was announced.

WBC is protesting the race. Took a pic, but can't post up until near a computer.

Any other Farkers here? Turn 12 grandstands are fantastic.

I was all hyped up to go and do all the downtown F1 festivitys this weekend and then I wrecked my bike on friday night and my gf and I have had to stay in all weekend nursing our road rash and injured limbs.

//is sad

Oh well, at least its coming back.

by the way, anyone know how frequent they'll be racing down here? Twice a year im guessing?

The track looks great. Pretty hilly. They also got 82k for qualifying which is a F1 record. Looks like this event is a huge success so far.

For F1? Once a year. They're also talking about a race in New Jersey as well.

Not even a gearbox change according to the BBC, they just broke the seal on the gearbox to get the penalty.

It also puts Alonso in front of Massa on the grid, so that he will not be behind his teammate at any point in the race except during the pits.

/on the plus side, Red Bull only needs four points to secure the constructor's championship, while Ferrari needs a 1-2 or 1-3 finish today to even have a chance to win it next week at Interlagos

Or find the Sky Sports stream online and avoid commericals and commentators who aren't even at the track.

Seriously, Fox/Speed don't give a fark anymore and have their guys in Charlotte.

Norfolking Chance: Now call me Mr Cynical but what are the odds of Masa taking out Vettel at some point during the race?

Pretty low, since Massa (with a double S, not a single S) is starting in P11 and Vettel is in P1. Not to mention that it would take little more than Schumi pointing out to the stewards that that's exactly what he did in 1997 to get Massa disqualified for the entire season (and possibly Ferrari as well, it there's any evidence that Massa were to do this due to team orders)

/of course, since the FIA is in Ferrari's pocket, if Massa were to "accidentally" crash into Vettel, Seb would probably be the one punished for the collision
//seriously, they're not even trying to pretend that they aren't trying to rig the championship for Ferrari

They're at the track this week.

That is a beautiful course. Looks like more elevation changes than a typical Tildke track. Interesting passing zones.

No they're not. Look at their online videos on the Speed website and listen to Hobbs' occasional references to them being in Austin earlier in the week. They are not in Austin right now.

Man that blows. I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait till next year. Im doing a remodel in one of the downtown highrises on the 15th floor (Great view) and the city has been even more nuts than usual. Its been really cool watching them set everything up.

I was talking to a friend of mine who lives there and she said it's absolutely crazy there this weekend. People all over the damn place.

Dropping Massa back seems silly. Yes, it puts Alonso on the clean side of the grid for the start, but it would make more sense to me having Massa (who usually makes good starts) up there slowing people down and then letting Alonso past.

All it could take is a good start and then a longer run than Vettel and Massa could well be racing him even though he is out of position. Plus both Massa and Alonso have form when it comes to crashing. Don't forget Singapore in '08.

The odds are low but don't forget Todd seems to have Farrari's back.

Ferrari sees Massa as little more than a tool to support Alonso's attempt to win the championship.

Which he would still be doing if they left him where he was.

Nonetheless, on this occasion, much as it pains me to say it, I'm rooting for Ferrari.

It was damn smart of Todt to write a rule back in 2008 (before he was FIA president) that Ferrari would be able to take advantage of 4 years later to move Alonso up by a place.

Yeah, that Ferrari move paid off. And Buxton said that it means Vettel won't win the WDC outright today (assuming no one has a major farkup).

I call B.S. no one "plays" F1 2012, they just drive and pray to the gods they don't wreck.

/it's the first racing game I've ever found that is completely unplayable without a wheel

Hamilton gets around Webber and is hunting down Vettel.

Just think what the championship would be like if the McLaren was reliable.
