@ WAS -3.5 PhI 44.5
going with WASH. Wash is 1-3 at home, PHI 1-3 OTR. Yeesh. I'll say WASH outright but who knows with either team. PHI was racking up some cheap wins early and wasn't WASH getting games ripped late? I'll say under. 21-13 type game.

GB -3 @ DET 52
GB should be favored by more. GB outright.

@ ATL -9.5 Arizona 44
There was a minor story here about whent he Redbirds flew out; i guess for East Coast games, they fly out early Friday but for this game (i know, ATL isn't "east coast") they did something out of practice and flew out either late Friday or perhaps yesterday. No reason was given but some people thought it was unusual. eeehhhhhh. I'll say cover. i know there's a stat for teams ATS off teh bye but i'm not interested in it. ATL of course is probbly pissed off after last week's finish and Arizona in dire need of a win (a loss today would six in a row) so I think the Redbirds come out with a chip on their shoulder.

TB -1 @ Caro 48
TB desperately needs this game to have any shot at the South. While ATL has a three game lead, that isn't insurmountable with 7 games left. The proverbial "you have to beat the teams you're supposed to beat", and TB must beat CARO (also, how interesting does the South get if ARIZ heists a win and TB wins? That would give us ATL 6-2, TB 6-4 but TB with a better divisional record if they beat CARO.) TB outright.

@ DAL -7.5 Cleveland 43.5
the INT bowl?
The two most intercepted QBs in 2012. I'll say Cleveland covers as I don't think DAL deserves 7.5. The Star On the Helmet factor (which since i've been actively factoring it into my picks for approx a month, i don't think I've been wrong on it) in play as usual. this should be a 5, 5.5 line.

@ STL -3.5 NY Jets 39
What an under.....Gonna pick STL outright. STL is 3-2 at home, Jets 1-3 OTR.

@ NE -9.5 Indianapolis 54
good lord, been sick of Luck v Brady storyline for days now. "THE PASSING OF THE TORCH?" settle down. Remember when we put Romo / Freeman / Newton / RGIII (after his second game) and Russell Wilson (in August) in Canton? settle the fark down, people. Matt Stafford is the #1 passing yards QB int eh NFL in only his 4th year, pretty sure no one is slobbing his knob re "passing the torch" and he's a young QB. Give Luck time. 9/5 is a lot. Both teams surrender 21.3 per, Pats obviously score more....Gonna pick IND to cover. And the over. 35-31, 38-32.

@ HOUS -15 JAX 40.5
Love these college football lines. the best was a few weeks ago when GB had I think 16.5 vs Caro, I think. GB had a late score to give them a 11 point lead and I started in -- with about 1:30 left -- "GB needs a field goal and then to recover the osnide kick and march dwon the field with only one timeout left to kick another FG if they want to cover the spread!" I amuse myself. Anyways. Against better judgment, I'll pick a JAX cover. The number is fair, but.....it's just too much. It's all to much for me to take, the love that shines all around you. The whole wide world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much.

(obscure?)

CIN -3 @ KC 43.5
Cin outright.

NO -5.5 @ OAK 55
hmmmmm......there was a couple year run of NFC South teams just getting housed in the West Coast time zone. Not east coast teams, and surely some confirmation bias here, but I tihnk it was the Saints super bowl season or the one just after, they went a collective 1-3 vs the west and lost all the @ games. Also, I think this line should be higher; 6.5, maybe even 7. So since it is a shorter line IMO, I'll invoke my NFC South @ West Coast Theorem and pick OAK to cover. Yes i know NO is on a 4-1 run.

@ DEN -8 SD 48
Hmmmm......see, this is what I'm talking about. NO and DEN, depite their two win differential, are probably about the same talent level. SD has one more win than OAK. Why are the lines 2.5 apart? This is the kind of line NO/OAK should be closer to. Anyways. A higher line.....I don't know about this one. Rivers has played pretty bad lately, i think he's due for a one of those games that convinces people he's in the top tier. I'm gonna say SD cover.

that high of a line probably wins good weather in Denver. havent' looked. If it was crap weather, like high of 30 and chance of snow, the line would be lower and the "SD sucks in cold weather" factor.

BALT -3 @ Pittsburgh 40
This game got real interesting with Tuesday's news. Surprised it isn't mroe with, what, Charlie Batch (how old is he? 43? seriously.) or Byron "Tracy Morgan" Leftwich. I'MA GET YOU PREGNANT, PRIMANTI BROTHERS! CHUCK NOLL IS MY BIOLOGICAL FATHER! DICK LEBEAU YOU LIKE RICHARD PRYOR WITH THE RED SUIT AND GOLD SHOES! I EAT RONZONI PASTA WITH HEINZ KETCHUP! I INVENTED THREE RIVERS STADIUM! Gotta say Balt outright.

Over/under on Christmas commercials?

2012-11-18 12:15:33 PM
Well, since I pay for these by the dash, I'm going to just simplify my season mark to 91-53. Ties are an abomination of nature, anyway.

Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons:
Gotta love the bounce-back game: drawing a home game against a team riding a 5-game losing streak has to feel good for Atlanta, even with the Cards coming in off a bye. Don't expect a huge game for Matt Ryan (Arizona ranks 2nd against the pass and has held opposing QBs to a passer rating less than 80 so far), but the ground game combined with the Cardinals' lack of offense should be enough to keep the Falcons' perfect home record intact.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers:
The good news is that Cam Newton should be able to post some stats against the worst pass defense in the league; the bad news is that he's still Cam Newton, and while the Bucs yield a ton of yards through the air, they make up for it by forcing more than their share of picks (4th in the league with 15). I look for a more convincing win this time around than the 16-10 week victory over Carolina.

Cleveland Browns at Dallas Cowboys:
Did Dallas finally turn the corner in the 4th quarter of last week's win in Philly? Doesn't matter: they draw the Browns this Sunday. Cleveland has been held to 15 points or less in each of their last 3 games, and Brandon Weeden has looked awful in the last two. Facing the Cowboys' 8th-ranked pass defense won't help things for him, either, while Dallas might finally be able to mount an effective running game against the Browns, ranked 27th there. Probably another low-scoring affair, but another win for Romo & Co. regardless.

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions:
Detroit brings the NFL's #1 passing attack into play here but it's difficult to picture that being enough to topple a Packers squad that comes in off their bye week. Expect the other foot to come down this time around, in a good old-fashioned stomping. Suh.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans:
In what looks to be a mismatch comparable to the '72 Dolphins vs. a Lingerie League team, the only thing that could stop a Texans victory would be...hmm, that's a tough one. Pretty sure they could play through multiple injuries, an earthquake, random toad infestation, and even Ming the Merciless dropping some hot hail on the stadium. I'm going to go with "mass hypnotism." Mass hypnotism could prevent a Houston win.

Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs:
The Chiefs played arguably their best game of the season last week, and still lost to a team with half their roster on IR. The Bengals also played what was likely their best game of the season, and utterly dominated the defending Super Bowl champions. That about sums this one up.

New York Jets at St. Louis Rams:
At this point in the season I'm convinced that Rex Ryan sits at home alone at night, talking to himself while slowly rocking to and fro in a dimly-lit corner. How about this for a silly stat: in two games (week 1 vs. Buffalo, week 6 vs. Indy), the Jets scored 11 touchdowns. In their other seven, they've scored 9. New York has lost its last two games by 21 points apiece, and while the Rams don't seem likely to win such a lopsided game, neither did the Dolphins in week 8.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins:
In an epic battle for last place in the NFC East, the Redskins have lost three straight & RG3 appears to have to come back to Earth, while the Eagles just plain suck. Washington comes in well-rested after a bye week, while Philly comes in having just had their still-beating hearts ripped out of their chests during an epic fourth-quarter fail against fellow division rivals Dallas. Advantage: Non-Eagles.

New Orleans Saints at Oakland Raiders:
After surrendering 55 points to Joe Flacco's team last Sunday and 42 to the Josh Freeman-led Bucs the week before, one has to wonder if Drew Brees and the Saints can break the century mark in this one. By halftime, I mean.

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos:
No matter what goes down in this game, we can at least be assured of epic levels of face. Manningface comes in high, riding a 4-game winning streak and in control of his playoff destiny. Riversface comes in having lost 4 of 5, with only a victory over the Chiefs preventing a clean sweep. Oh, sure, there are other players involved, but none of them have their own memes.

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots:
Everyone thinks of this as Tom Brady's team, but the Pats may now be Stevan Ridley's boys: in games in which Ridley was the leading rusher, New England is 5-1 (the lone loss being a replacement refs game against Arizona). They are 1-2 in their other games (the lone win being teammate Brandon Bolden's career outing in the week 4 blowout). The Colts rank just 22nd against the run.

Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers:
I went to bed Tuesday night having decided that for the first time ever, I was going to pick against my Ravens this week. Game in Pittsburgh, Flacco's well-documented struggles on the road, the Ravens' porous defense, etc. Then Wednesday came along, and with it news that Ben Roethlisberger had been ruled out of the game...and this, of course, changes everything. So long as Flacco & the offense can avoid too many turnovers, this is suddenly a very winnable game for the Purple & Black.

Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers:
It's no secret how the Bears win: turnovers, coupled with a just-good-enough offense. Well, the 49ers do not turn the ball over (just 9 in total over 9 games), and with Jay Cutler out counting to potato triangled, the offense is no longer good-enough either. I can honestly see this one getting out of hand as the second half progresses, with a final in the 27-6 range.

2012-11-18 12:15:38 PM
Matt Barkely yesterday was running for his life every snap, while his defense continually let him down. It's almost like he's a Chief already.

I have no knowledge of anything, but last I heard locally was that he couldn't raise his arms over his shoulders. Maybe that's "normal" for this type of injury, but it doesn't sound promising to me
