Oregon choked on a big fat one, at home no less.

Amazing what having possibly the worst FG kicker of any major college will do once you quit being able to roll opponents by 40 points a game.

UGA would still have to get past Alabama first in the SEC Championship Game if they want the shot. And that's also assuming that Alabama will still win out from here on to stay ranked that high by the time they meet.

/what, Auburn could still have a chance to upset them, really

Cause when you think of scheduling power houses you think of fighting Western Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee, Western Carolina, and this year Auburn.

The fact of the matter is, currently the Irish are the best in a year where no one in college football is actually very good.

I'm no Notre Dame homer, but seriously? Their schedule is full of cupcakes? Every single team they've played for Boston College is either already bowl eligible or has a chance to become bowl eligible in the next two weeks. Sagarin rates their schedule as the 33rd most difficult in the country. Before this week, Colley Matrix had their schedule as the 26th most difficult in the country, and Ken Massey had them with the 22nd most difficult schedule in the country. Since when was having one of the 25 most difficult schedules in the country considered loading up with cupcakes?

As much as I normally HATE Notre Dame, I have to defend them in that their schedule this year was certainly no cakewalk. They played 10 BCS conference teams this season and their only non-BCS opponents were BYU and Navy, who are not amazing but also certainly not the standard FCS cupcakes that most big teams play nowadays. Sure, some of their highly ranked preseason opponents have disappointed (ie, Michigan State, USC) but that's not exactly their fault.

Not only that, the football team knows nothing about grammar.

Ohio state gets their bam lifted in order to give the BCS a chance at credibility and ratings. ND loses to USC, Bama loses to UGA

2012-11-18 08:05:35 AM
Isn't it correct that Alabama only played three ranked teams? They lost to A&M, should have lost to LSU, and they beat Miss. State. Otherwise it's Western Ky., Florida Atlantic, etc. Alabama is playing the fluffiest patsy schedule in America. All I'm saying is that a one-loss Alabama is no better than a one loss Oregon or K. State.

2012-11-18 08:05:45 AM
Based on last year's logic, since Oregon lost by the least amount to a ranked team (ranked higher than any of the other teams that beat a 1 or 2) they should still get to go if they win out.

It is the exact same arguement Bama used, so it should work right? Right!?

2012-11-18 08:12:01 AM
Where was Texas A&M ranked when they beat Bama? Also, sure it's just Auburn ahead but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Nope. It was a one-time-only deal. Now it's all about who has the strongest defense. Then next year it'll be about who has the most handsome head coach. Then it'll be about who has the flashiest sports car.

In any other year, you can throw the respective records out the window, but Auburn is positively putrid this year.

ND has a great defense, but I have a feeling they'll get curbstomped by Bama or UGA.

Notre Dame can't schedule who they play in Bowl games. There is a reason why they lost 10 of their last 12 bowl games

Here I am thinking, "Wow, we could have a title game without the drooling morons from the SEC." Kansas State was giving us a nice little Cinderella story, and Oregon is usually a fun time.

Nope. Baylor and Stanford have now unleashed the nightmare scenario that is the Roll Tards and the Domers.

I'll allow the Oregon statement, but K-State got throttled by a 4-5 team that came in to the game dead LAST in total defense in the FBS.

If Bama makes it past UGA, I'd much rather see them play ND than Oregon.

You do know that Texas A&M is 3rd in the SEC west? Did you mean Bama? If so, agreed. I'm going to enjoy watching UGA win that game.

The weird thing is that it could be Georgia-Florida in the NCG, making it the second year in a row that a NCG will be a SEC rematch game.

Here's a brief explanation....they lost last week. Oregon and Kansas State lost this week. Alabama lost to a good Texas A & M team. They will have to also beat a top-5 Georgia team to make it to the championship.
Kansas State lost to a 4-5 Baylor team that played horrendous defense all year. Oregon lost to Stanford and dont control there own destiny to get into the PAC-12 championship. Oregon's best wins are against mediocre USC and UCLA teams. Bama beat a 2-loss LSU in Death Valley.
Those are some reasons.

I thought Texas A&M was higher than LSU in the BCS rankings (just checked and they are not).

Given the rotation loses that everybody had (similar to alabama, lsu, arkansas last year), then the SEC West champ would be whoever was highest in BCS rankings, I believe.

So, I shall amend my statement, if Alabama loses to Auburn (as was posited earlier), then it would be LSU vs Georgia.

People were mentioning it last night in the games thread. This will never happen in a million years.

Oregon may very well stay above Florida in the polls (even if they fall lower, they could get a boost from OSU and a PAC championship game). And, if ND loses next week to USC, they might stay above Florida in the polls, too.

Doesn't that imply that Oregon lost to a better team than Alabama did? Also, you have a funny definition of "mediocre" that somehow excludes teams with only two losses that are going to their conference championship game but also includes teams with only two losses that aren't.

The really funny argument is when people were trumpeting Oregon's schedule with discussions about how Stanford and USC were tough games while knocking ND's schedule because USC and Stanford weren't powerhouses this year. Doesn't matter anymore, but it was funny last week.

Really need to give props to Baylor and Stanford.

Baylor laid the smack down on K State. They ran the score up and made the Powerkittens look helpless on both sides of the ball.

Stanford had an outstanding game plan and stuck to it. They controlled the ball and the game, exposing huge weaknesses in Oregon's play style.

To the silly ass who thinks Notre Dame schedule is a joke...

Notre Dame has played and beaten:

Michigan - RANKED
Stanford - RANKED who beat a # 2 Oregon in heir own house
@ Oklahoma RANKED **their best win***

The worst team (record wise) is 4-6 (pitt - who isn't really what you call a "cupcake"), the rest are either close to or bowl eligible

Bama on the other hand has played and beaten (and lost to):

Michigan - Ranked
Miss St - just outside T25
@ LSU - Ranked T10 ** their best win**

Lost @ HOME to Tex A&M - Ranked

The rest of their schedule is, in fact, full of cup cakes...W. Ky, W. Carolina, Fl Atl, and you can add in a couple shiatty SEC teams like Auburn and Tenn. who blow ass this year and there you have it.

Not saying Bama isn't good, but to say that ND schedule is a "joke" or they are a joke of a team...well, I am afraid you're a coont who knows dick about football and or just a pathetic hater. USC is still a game they need to focus on, but it's a rival game, I am thinking ND is thinking payback time for all the years they kicked their ass and will win the game securing their spot in the NCG.

It is going to be Bama and ND in the NC game - sorry Dawg fans, I am rooting for you, but I don't think your O can get over on Bama's D. The game will be close and low scoring, but ND has experience in close games (good experience at that where bama not so much). I am thinking a throw back to the1975 Orange Bowl 11-13 and The Irish pull it out with a last second FG. This game will be awesome (if you're a defense fan like me) and ND will beat the SEC streak...of course they will, because college football lore, mojo, or whatever is kind of funny that way when ND is in the mix.

The echoes have woken up baby!

Yup. Oregon had no answer and you could see how baffled and confused they looked late in the game and in OT. "Rely on our FG kicker? Is this even a thing? Why aren't we winning by 35 points by now?"

Stanford would have won by 2 or 3 scores had they not kept fumbling.

Living in the south, I will let you in on a little secret. We all know that Bama had a relatively easy go of it this year. This team is not nearly as good as the teams the last couple few years. I think there would actually be a lot of really happy SEC fans if UGA won the title. The look in Saban's eyes would be worth it.

With that said. ND has shown their O is avg and has issues against good D's. If it is Bama/ND it will be a race to double digits. If it is UGA/ND I think it would be exciting.

/still think ND got a lucky call against Stanford.
