So, if Bimbo buys out most of Hostess, will they keep the Hostess name or are we going to see Bimbo Ho Hos as an actual product?

Bimbo ding-dongs.

Hey, this actually is a great idea- they already have the capability and make a lot of good stuff. Sara lee, Entmenmanns, etc.
I will really laugh though if Lil Debbie wins this- Cosmic Brownies, Swiss Rolls and Nutty Bars for all!

Its pronounced "Beem-Bo" for those who don't know.
And yes, this is a real company. Their logo is on the uniform of the Philadelphia Union of MLS.

They tend to stick with the brands they've bought (like Sara Lee) so I imagine they'll keep the Hostess name, or maybe eschew Hostess and just call them Ho-Ho's without a parent brand.

I've seen their goodies around town in the 7-11s and such.

They're quality products.

I buy their bread enough and I know how they want me to pronounce it.

But it's not pronounced "Fronk n steen" no matter how much he wishes it was.

This going-out-of-business thing is a ploy.

You know when the last time this happened was?

2009.

It's just the Hostess way of shirking contractual obligations.

According to the Christian Science Monitor, while food producers ConAgra and Flowers Food, the American company behind Nature Valley granola, have expressed interest along with Little Debbie baker McKee Foods, Mexico's Grupo Bimbo may hold the inside track.

Little Debbie may become a Bimbo?

Uh, that was Chapter 11. This is liquidation, and it's already been agreed to. Hostess is done as a company.

Very common down here in the Southwest and in Mexico. Not bad - I kinda like the Bimbo bread.

I wonder if some of the Hostess production would shift to Mexico. That would be a fun one for Republicans to toss around.

I don't buy it. Inside of 2 weeks the same executives will be operating the same brands.

The teamsters saw this coming. The other union did not.

The Teamsters tried to get the other union to stop striking last week because they knew everyone was going to get farked.

The "executives" are two hedge funds who lent the money to keep Hostess running these past three years and one private equity firm that has been running the business. The hedge funds are first in line for liquidation payback. The PE firm is going to lose their shirt on this. The employees are farked six ways from Sunday, because the only thing that was funding their pension fund was the loan provided by the hedge funds, which now has to be paid back via property and brand liquidation. There is no more pension fund for these people. There's no more company, there's no more jobs, and there's no future for the current players.

The brand will survive, but the 18,000 people who worked for Hostess are now unemployed and without pensions.

Why do the hedge funds get paid first?

That's what's wrong with the system. The hedge funds are investments. If the investment goes pear shaped, they should spilt milk it and move the fark on. Don't invest what you can't lose and bootstraps, wot!

Meanwhile, the employees who spent their lives working and paying into that pension should be given priority, but they won't be.

It's all farkin' backwards.

From what little I gathered - they were the only ones willing to lend money during the first bankruptcy. If it's any consolation to you - they aren't going to see a return on their investment. They dictated high interest returns for the loans, and Hostess couldn't meet them.

Yes. That was mentioned in the article. Which means that we can see a return of real sugar instead of that high fructose corn syrup crap that our taxes are subsidizing so a bunch of rich corn farmers can get richer. If they go back to sugar I might give them another shot. I can't stomach the crap they've been producing.

The taling head on our local "Fair and Balanced" Fox News station forgot that as a "news" reporter, he was supposed to be neutral. After reporting this Friday morning, he went on a rant about how bad the strike was, like the union was striking just because they needed to fill their calendar. Funny part is; it was one of those early morning news shows that went for like 3 hours, so they reported the story 3 or 4 times(It always bugs me that they act like it's "new" news that they haven't already covered, even the same jokes sometimes), and he kept trying to jump n the discussion with his anti-union rant, but nobody gave him space. I bet he creamed his jeans when he finally got that puppy in there...

Then Mexico must be pronounced mex-ick-oh, not meh-ih-ho.

/Why must we pronounce spanish name in correct dialect, but Lee is not pronounced 'e', Kim is not 'Gim'.
//Now don't mess with my 'mericanlish.

Funny how Mexican companies have started to cross the border in recent years, and yet that would have been unthinkable two decades ago.

Hopefully this is part of a larger trend, since Mexico's economy picking up would be good for everyone.

2012-11-18 04:11:26 AM
I wouldn't have any problem with bimbo buying up the hostess name. If they pick up the factory too and hopefully some of the employees, I would consider it a win/win.

/that's too optimistic though.

If they didn't get paid first, they probably wouldn't have invested because the risk of loss would have been too high.

Hi, we're out of money, so we want to borrow some from you, but if we run out again, you'll be the first to get paid during our liquidation => ok, maybe I've got some cash laying around for you.

Oh, I'm a troll now? You know that if that guy who runs bimbo were in America, and he inherited the company from his father(which he did),, and were WHITE, he would be lambasted for being part of the evil 1%, and he'd be republican...and that would push his status over the evil edge according to most left leaners.

I'm wrong? Nah...you'll just put me into a convenient "troll" category and ignore. Neenerneenerneener I can't hear you. Why so angry? It's just debate, relax.

I have one dumb question. Why are companies allowed to run the pensions instead of putting them in a proper fund so that stupidity by the company management doesn't wipe out some poor schmuck's 40 years of investment?
