They got number one right but WTF is a Chipwich?

I've never seen one. Sort of an upscale Ice Cream sandwich with cookies onna outside?

Kinda want. That noted, Oreo ice cream sandwiches are a better fit for the iconic label.

Also Moon Pies? Does anyone actually eat them anymore or they more like Wagon Wheels now ie. fondly remembered but rarely bought or sold?

/Pic is hot like a post apocalyptic hellzone replete with Randy Neuman riffs.
//Article also spelled Cheezy Poofs wrongly.

I've never eaten a Moon Pie and get the feeling that I'm not missing a goddamned thing.

I am but a lowly forest dweller who doesn't get out much.

Maybe Chipwich is an American thing or sommat.

Occasionally. Ever since the companies have switched to cheaper ingredients, most snack cake-like things aren't really very good anymore. Hostess Ding Dongs used to be really good when I was a kid back in the '70s. Now, they taste like a kitchen sponge covered with black wax(as does every other "chocolate" flavored snack).

So that's not just me?

They farked up the recipe to save some pennies?

Grrrrr!

The only of those things I ever eat are the pepperoni pizza and very occasionally, the Snickers (only around Halloween).

Sounds yum.

Now I want two.

Ya know, I read some people one other tabs occasionally stating that they tend to avoid the Politics Tab cos it makes them stabby/frustrated/despairing of their fellow man kinda thing but my only problem with the place is how often it ends up making me hungry. That's weird, innit?

At the PNE here in Vancouver (kinda like out state Fair kinda thing) my long time favorite junk food of all time is the cinnamon and sugar covered "li'l donuts" that you get to watch being made in front of you. That and the old wooden rollercoaster thingy are hallowed traditions here.

One significant result of these cost-cutting practices has been that the majority of their U.S. products no longer contain enough milk and cream to actually be considered "ice cream," and are now labeled "Frozen Dairy Dessert" instead.[7]

Wow, that's just wrong on so many levels.

2012-11-17 10:45:25 PM
With Little Debbie's, Ding Dongs, Zingers, the cost cutting and likewise FAILING can be traced to the (misguided) introduction of vegetable oils and shortenings instead of rendered animal fats. Of course, corn syrup doesn't help, either, but the next layer of destruction came with whey solids, a byproduct of the ever expanding dairy industry.

As these changes were made to recipes, additions were made in a piecemeal way to bit by bit recapture what was lost from the original recipes.

Therefore, any chocolate cake like former delicasy now tastes like a wax covered sponge without true flavor or mouth feel.

Yuck.

By the way, years ago, traveling through the anus of southeast Minnesota / northeast Iowa, I came upon an Amish roadside stand selling baked goods. There I encountered THE HOLY GRAIL

HOMEMADE TWINKIES!!!!!ELEVENTY!

Fried in lard spongecake stuffed with real whipped cream.

Why do "cheese puffs" get the generic treatment? Surely they meant "Cheetos".
And what's with the lack of potato chips?

Cheetos and cheese puffs aren't even close to the same thing. At all.

Chipwiches and pork rinds while not including Oreos is a joke.

That shiat'll kill ya. It's the quintessential junk food.

No mention of the Goo Goo Cluster? Must be too regional.

2012-11-18 12:15:16 AM
I've never heard of a Chipwich, either... Hate Moonpies and Twinkies... so would never miss them. Did like Snickers at one time (then won a prize, filled everything out, exactly as the wrapper said, sent it in exactly as directed and f'rs replied it wasn't actually a winner. Really, then why did it say I was a winner?!?! Never touched one since, and never will again).
Do enjoy original Doritos on occasion!!!
Pizza would be the only thing that would actually affect me if it were to vanish... and hell, you could make it yourself.

2012-11-18 12:16:49 AM
And no potato chips either

2012-11-18 12:17:25 AM
They're all doing this and have been doing it for a while.
These days, processed or commercial food has become the junk it was called for so long.
Perhaps the saddest is Bryer's. Bastages.

F*ck you, Cheetos and cheese puffs are entirely separate entities

Hostess is going out of business because their snacks taste like crap. The Twinkie tastes like high fructose corn syrup mixed with industrial plastic waste. The little chocolate donuts (which was my favorite as a kid) taste like cheap wax and not even close to a chocolate flavor. Give me a good tasting snack and I'll buy it. Use sugar, not HFCS. Use real chocolate, not chocolate flavoring. And your ice cream better be real ice cream with milk and cream (I usually buy my ice cream from Baskins Robbins).

2012-11-18 12:19:31 AM
Most of that slideshow was blatant product placement. They could easily have featured each type of junk food without including a brand name.

And where the hell were onion rings? You can't have a junk food list without those.

I finally tried one for the first time, my coworker brought a box of the mini ones in yesterday.

They were so f*cking disgusting. I felt like life was just a cruel joke after the first bite.

What, no Slim Jims? They'd fit right in with the pork rinds, cheese poofs and Doritos...

Put a Moon Pie on a plate, nuke it for 10-15 sec. Put a big scoop of ice cream and lots of chocolate syrup on it.

I've had them here in Ontario. I don't care for them though, I prefer a plain old ice cream sandwich.

/40 year olds shouldn't eat Ding Dongs
