Slaxl: I look forward to the day when there exists just such a map of the galaxy with information on every star with planets n' stuff. Also stick more cameras in space so it's less a digital representation and more a live feed...

Do I ask for too much?

Nope, not at all.

I wish we could put a live feed camera looking back at Earth from a good distance...close enough to see the big features (like continents) but far enough out to realize how small it is. Maybe Moon distance? Then every time someone starts getting all nationalistic and tribal I wish we could make them just stare at the live feed for about 5 minutes to remind them how small minded they are being.

This is really cool, but some well known local stars are missing. For instance, I can't find 40 Eridani.

You're welcome, but I can't take all the credit, I only did the hard part of linking to it, someone else did the easy part of making it.

Well with payload costs looking to diminish, and HD cameras small enough to fit on pens maybe soon we can set up a network of cameras in geosynchronous orbit covering the whole earth. Need money though... Kickstarter?

This is insanely amazing.

Also, my carrier task group is leaving the gravity well on route to demolish some pirate frigates.
