Loucifer: I have an old friend of over twenty years that un-friended me on Facebook the night Obama was re-elected. I had made not a single political post on Facebook, yet he still dumped me because he knows I am an Obama fan. He un-friended at least 4 other people that I know of because of his Republican butthurt.

Part of his hatred toward Obama is based in race. I had thought the racial comments he made over the years were just jokes. Evidently, they were not.

Anyway... I just thought of a little passive-aggressive way to needle him. He has a pretty common English name. I just checked, and there are dozens of exactly named people on Facebook. Some of them are young, black and urban. I should friend one or more of these guys and just replace him. When the notification goes out that I am now friends with so & so, our mutual friends will think he came to his senses - until they notice the profile pic is a bit darker. I think it's pretty funny and not too mean spirited. What do you guys think?

Go for it.

DrgnMech: Legal pot is the same thing as legal rape or legal murder. Most criminals have a backgrounds in atheism and homosexuality and smoking pot, these things are connected. You take rights from actual Americans and make it legal to use drugs and rob and murder.

This person is clearly a scholar who can teach us much of the world.

And perhaps many other worlds in distant far off galaxies. Perhaps even planet Kolob

Great idea, but what are you going to type in the friend request message? Just explain the whole thing to a stranger? ;)

I almost feel sorry for them.

I'm wondering how many of them actually took the time to get out and vote?

I agree, but if his party tries more "American Democracy Über Alles" crap, I don't promise to be civil.

Taxes, fiscal policy, regulations, etc.? We can talk. Murder parties? No.

Some guy who has been in your life for many years dumped you. So you're going to go find some complete stranger and use him to make the guy who dumped you mad.

Basically, you're every lame ex-girlfriend every guy dumped in their 20s. Good luck with that.

Xyphoid: Am I the only one who is pretty sure that most of the hatemail they get is people trolling or Poe's Law situations?

Nobody puts that much effort into a joke. Freepers and the letter writers are sad, pathetic and probably insane.

rthanu: He himself implied that these emails are probably real by pointing to Yahoo! new comments prior in this thread. How is that any different than what he accused me of later?

The difference is that the statement under discussion is "there are no people like this; these emails must be fake."

Saying "there are people just like this on Yahoo, see for yourself" is a pretty good argument, because it is proof of existence by example. Saying "I don't know such people, therefore they don't exist" is not a good argument.

I would like to point out that I'm pointing this out for fun, not for consideration in a court of lawl.

Just because of my inability to drop any argument, often against better judgement, I will say this.

His implication that going to Yahoo! news and reading the comments will verify the authenticity of these emails is no different than me saying that my experience in going to similar places makes me conclude the opposite.

Whether "I've never seen people like this, these emails are obviously fake" is an accurate description of how my post came off, my intentions were something more like "I don't think these emails are believable, because of reading the real ones". (I also think that the language I used should lend itself to this being a more accurate statement, but I'm biased.) I *think* there is a difference between those statements. Regardless, they are both baseless, but so is his, "Go read real loons; you will conclude also that these are real"

I should have also said "Some" of the emails aren't believable. Some are really Poe's Law applicable, but Bareefer Obonghit? C'mon, really?
