LordJiro: Shaggy_C: lilbjorn: Second term curse? Who besides Dubya was cursed in his second term? And Dubya was only cursed because of the stupid things he did during the first term coming back to haunt him.

Clinton had the Lewinsky scandal.
Reagan had Iran-Contra.
Nixon had Watergate.
Johnson had Vietnam

None of them had a particularly rosy second term in office. Ike did ok, though.

How is the Lewinsky scandal in any way comparable to the others?

The same effect on Clinton's term as in: I really believe he was close to getting his healthcare initiative moving until he was hauled off to congress to lie about his affair. It was the lie that got him not the actual affair but that's another issue for another day.

Shaggy_C: You can focus on some of the other wonderful accomplishments of the 2nd term - the murder of innocent Chinese diplomats during the air war in Serbia, American casualties due to multiple terrorist attacks, the signing of the disastrous Financial Services Modernization Act, the dot-com collapse, the "pay for pardons" scandal, and the failure to achieve middle East peace. Sounds pretty farking cursed if you ask me.

F*cking Billbo ClitorisfartBigMacton! Middle East peace was staring him right in the face!

Nixon, Reagan, Clinton all had 2nd term scandals

i think if there's a lesson here either A) don't do something you'll regret in your first term (hard to prevent really, it's like telling a teenager not to do something, experience matters)... or B) don't make a mistake in your second term (doubly hard, nobody gives the experienced leader any room for mistakes)

what makes Katrina interesting with Bush is that responding to crisis was his staple in his first term, if he wasn't great at anything else - you could rely on him to respond to crisis at least... that he failed on that spoke volumes, so the lesson for Barack is don't rest on your laurels

Reagan and Clinton both had completely avoidable scandals in their first terms, the lesson here for Barack is already lost since if he did something he'd regret later on it already happened regardless if we know everything yet or not

Nixon was the worst obviously, he's a unique case

that said, even Eisenhower had a scandal free 2nd term, but the opposition party won anyways, there's no guarantee of anything

Raharu: Raharu: All they have left to stop the "1000 years of darkness" is magic and superstition.

Good luck with that.

Oh and Benghazi. I mainly think they are so stuck on Benghazi because its a fun word to say.

Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi..

Oh shiat John McCain just appeared in my living room!

Poke him with a stick!

It isn't. Clinton killed us all but the damage was not realized until he was long gone. China, nafta, telecommunications act of 96, v chip, outsourcing, not getting bin laden, and giving North Korea their nuclear arms financing to name a feel. If you're a greedy, not signing the Kyoto protocol as well but most greens are democrats before green. Just ask algore

Still there. You can still program TVs and cable boxes to block shows that are over a certain rating.

lol, remember when user configurable integrated circuitry was so rare in televisions it had a name?

brb, wife says the tube is going fuzzy again, probably needs a quick manual degausse or horizontal adjustment.

/Still need to get those bigger rabbit ears out and replace those tiny old ones.

I only know of this guy from his ancient history books, and I've always kind of respected him for them. After reading this...wow. I would have thought that it was just a major name coincidence had it not been for the plug at the end of the article. What a waste of internet space.

yummy

I swear I'm gonna drown in the deliciousness

Well, Mr. President, these tedious stories are making me drowsy, but if anything comes of all this, and they manage to dredge up some scandal that gets you impeached, please be sure to wake me up before you go go...

It appears that somebody burned one of their troll accounts and had to dust off an old alt.

At this point, it really doesn't matter what the GOP pins on Obama to weigh him down for the next four years. They're so furious that he got re-elected and that he has a squeaky clean image that they're willing to try anything. They tried graft from the stimulus, they tried Fast and Furious, they tried Solyndra, and now they're trying Benghazi. And when Benghazi ultimately fails to become a scandal or anything approaching an impeachable offense, they'll try something else, like maybe having sex with a black woman in the White House.

We're cursed already.

Anyone who thinks the next four years will be any better than the last four years is simply retarded.

Wow. Just wow. Signed, sealed, delivered, you are doomed to a negative four years. Or retarded. I sure am glad to not be in your wavelength.

St_Francis_P: Whether he can or not, the article seems mainly concerned with trotting out right-wing conspiracy theories. Good luck with that.

It would be pretty tough to beat my last four years. They were great. Sorry you had a rough time and are expecting an even rougher time. It sounds cripplingly depressing.

Well, his posts are lazy and stupid. He probably is too. Lazy, stupid people rarely prosper, and usually blame their failures on others.

lordjupiter: Darth_Lukecash: Ahhh, Orange County Register. A whacked out libertarian paper, where reality is just a clearing dream

Ah, figures. I got to the part where the author started snarkily listing half-true "coincidences" and figured this was some kind of hit-piece.

How about this theory...2nd term Presidents have more TIME to have things go wrong (twice as much!) and also face vindictive partisan opposition who know their only options are impeachment or destroying the credibility of the incumbent's party completely for the next election.

Shocking, I know.

Or scandals that were held in check until the re-election, see the light of day,
Or 1st-string cabinet members jump ship, leaving many cabinet positions to 2nd-stringers
Or Presidential over-reach
Or physical-emotional exhaustion starts to set in

2012-11-18 10:59:04 AM
I'd rather see the President limited to one six-year term
