Yes. This is a tragedy of an outrage of a mockery of a sham.

I assume it's because of conference realignment and rescheduling, but if this happens again it's absolutely unacceptable.

No, it's because traditionally, SEC teams tend to play cupcakes the week before their big rivalry games. It's like scheduling a bye.

Don't want to get anyone hurt the week before before we play Auburn/Ga Tech/FSU/Clemson... so we'll just have a scrimmage against East Lansing Women's Technical College for the Blind and Infirm.

Hope to see the Vols get our first SEC win this season. I was at the game last year when we beat them in overtime, I hope we blow them out this year (we might really lose this one). I've got tickets next week to see them beat up on Kentucky

This'll be Rice last home game this season.

Technically, the team can qualify for a bowl with a win this week against SMU and one next week a UTEP. They won't get one (despite a road win against a team that is technically part of the Big XII), but 6-6 would be a pretty nice final record. If just a few more things went right this year, it would have been one of the best seasons since the last bowl game.

I, for one, have no problem with these games, though they're better earlier in the season.

It's fun to watch your school get a shot at amajor conference team a few times a year, and, more importantly, these games bring in a lot of money. They allow football to continue to be played at a lot of schools whose programs would otherwise lose a few million dollars, and that makes college football more fun for everyone (and it probably saves quite a few non-football sports at many schools).

The people who never want these matchups to be played effectively want to kill the sport for most people over a few games per year that no one forces them to watch. It's the same annoying attitude displayed by those who think there are too many bowl games.

Same as most of the pac 12s first 3 weeks, didn't Oregon play what amounts to 3 preseason games? Most teams do it, some just do it for home coming games or before their big rivalry games.

I have no problems at all with teams playing 1-AA opponents in September, although they should be encouraged to play regional teams (like UNC, NC State, and ECU frequently do with App State).

But there is no excuse short of "conference expansion royally messed up our scheduling capabilities, and we promise never to do it again" for having these games in mid-november. And I wish the pollsters would punish teams for doing so.

I don't think Georgia state made a ton of money from that game, they did it as a favor to Bill Curry a former Alabama head coach who brought the team back to respectability yet was rewarded by the AD trying to strip some his power away.

A first year program should have made a mill off that but I think they were paid $200k, besides Georgia state has some big money boosters behind it and pushed for them to start football up.

Part of it is bad luck, (Ark v. Miss St. should have been a better game) but when a conference has 6 teams in the top 10 and 5 are playing popcorn fart opponents late in the season (and the one playing in-conference has a weak opponent,) that is going to attract negative attention.

Don't grumble too much, or else ESPN will take away your ability to watch it unless you're a subscriber to only one cable service.

Still angry at how they are only available to some cable subscribers instead of internet subscribers.

Yeah. If this was a normal year, at this point we'd be looking at a mix of teams that would include Ohio State undefeated up there with K-State, Oregon and Notre Dame for who plays in the National Championship. Instead, we get this ghost undefeated team that just serves to weaken all the other teams in the Big 10 by adding losses to their schedules.

I'm sure I've probably heard him somewhere else but the high pitched near scream for a 15yd pass play is a little much.

Perhaps I just miss his sporting events through fluke scheduling.

2012-11-17 06:23:22 PM
So his shoulder kept him from getting up off the ground while stopping the clock for three minutes?

That's really classless.

I'm don't know why the playcalling has been so pedestrian today. Perhaps they are trying to look vanilla to all those michigan eyes watching this game, but I'd prefer if they seal this one up before worrying about that.

I don't get much Big 10+ coverage here in FL, but I grew up in N. IN. Always like to watch or go to the IU (I'm an alumni) and Purdue games when I was at school. Now I'm lucky to get a chance to watch any Big 10+ games.

UCLA defeats USC! Ooopps. Ruffing the passer on the defense. No 10pt play so they can get to 4, it's over.

That would be interesting. Would we call it the Big 10 +++ division? I think it would be good for the Rutger's and MD programs, esp. in B-Ball. It would probably help the division in FB too. (recruiting)

I like the idea. But can we change the names of the Conf. divisions? I'm open to suggestions for the Big 10+ division names. They don't make sense now. I can't remember them now but I think one is called the legends, don't know the other. Is it classic? Makes no sense to me.

steamingpile: Why? It proves our point that a decent defense makes going for it on 4th down a dumb move.

A sample size of one proves nothing.

Oregon osing a yard by running on first down proves you shouldn't run it on first down.

The Trees look like they want this game.

They were the Indians but dropped that mascot in the 70's. It's the color not the bird.

As a Husker fan, I really hope Oregon kills the Cardinal. Because on the off chance Nebraska can beat Wiscy again for the B1G Title game, I'd want to see a game against someone they wouldn't get killed by

Hmmm. Didn't know that Animal House was filmed at Oregon. Never thought about it either. But it is pretty cool anyway.

Wow that punt returner is stupid, gave them almost 20 extra yards

Well its the first decent defense they have faced, I guess we will have to wait till their bowl game, that is unless they just get to the rose bowl against a crappy big 10 team.
