Whoa!

2012-11-17 01:54:07 AM
Shiat's been real for days, but now it just got a lot worse.

Poor Hamas.

mikaloyd: Whoa!

Oddly enough, my EXACT reaction when I read the headline.

This one is a tough one for me to call. You can't really expect any country to just sit there and take rockets, even small pretty ineffectual ones, being fired into their territory. Israel withdrew from Gaza, and then the people put Hamas into power. I have pretty much zero sympathy for Hamas. Yet Israel is going apeshiat on them killing how many innocent people in the process? People in Gaza resent Israel even more. They put even crazier anti-Israeli people into power. They do/allow stupid shiat to happen. Israel reacts with killing more people in Gaza...

It's just a continuation of a horrible cycle.

Egypt really needs to step up to the plate here and help stop the cycle.

Not a chance in hell.

Israeli aircraft bombed Hamas headquarters before dawn on Saturday

Symbolic destruction. Much like the rockets Israel is receiving.

Rockets from Egypt. Looks like they stepped up to the plate. Guess they forgot the last time.

The blood of the "innocent people" you speak of is on the hands of Hamas. Israel is not targeting them even if they occasionally hit some of them. Hamas, OTOH is targeting everyone and everything in Israel. They just aren't very good shots and they have weak-assed rockets but rockets nonetheless.

How long is this shiat going to go on? WTF does Hamas actually want? A cookie? The destruction of Israel? It seems like they just think lobbing rockets into Israel is their national pastime and dodging return fire is what gets their adrenalin pumping..

Seems like there are only a few possible solutions to this and among them are killing every last motherfarker in the Gaza Strip and occupying their territory and declaring martial law.

Ah, yes, so it doesn't count.

Happy Hours: Hamas, OTOH is targeting everyone and everything in Israel. They just aren't very good shots and they have weak-assed rockets but rockets nonetheless.

You'd think that with far better and more accurate/precise equipment, those "targets" would be hit, and the surrounding infrastructure (or civilian non-targets) would escape everything except maybe some rubble and shrapnel flying through the air.

So may I ask, is the equipment slightly less accurate, are they using armaments that are too heavy, or are they just not targeting as precisely as you suggest?

I expected the article to be about Twinkies.

This war has gone on long before that.

We tend to forget that there is a deep history involved. There are those who hate Israel and want nothing but to see them destroyed. Hamas is one of those organizations.

This is about bigotry, pure and simple. Hamas wont stop until every Jew is dead.

fark Hamas. I feel sorry for the plight of the Gaza Strip and the Palestinians, but Hamas is a terrorist group masquerading as a legitimate Government organization.

On blowing the hell out of a legitimate target after Hamas launches rockets at civilian areas?

As the crisis escalates, Israel's military is considering waging a ground campaign. It started drafting 16,000 reserve troops on Friday, as Israel's Cabinet authorized the mobilization of up to 75,000 reservists. Troops are massing on the border, and witnesses said they could see Israeli ships off Gaza's coast, NBC News' Ayman Mohyeldin reported.

/Yep, saw this coming. Can only poke a tiger for so long before it gets all its friends together and gang rapes you. Very sad, but I saw this coming. Looks like shiat is going to hit the fan, and there is not allot that people armed with rpgs and Ak's are going to do to be able to stop it. Bombing and missile strikes, and shelling from the ocean, as well as armor rolling in, ya..this is not going to be pretty.

2012-11-17 07:00:50 AM
Anybody got an over/under on someone unleashing a nuke in the region?

/remember, Dec 21, 2012 is only weeks away...

They're the government; sooner or later we are going to have to deal with them, one way or another, and I understand why this administration and previous administrations had such antipathy towards Hamas because of their dedication to violence and the things that they not only espouse but practice, so . . . but it's a new reality in the Middle East. I think the lesson is people want security and a decent life and decent future, that they want democracy. Fatah was not giving them that.

It still feels like the same ols "Shiat" wake me when another country gets involved.

2012-11-17 07:06:12 AM
Used to be you couldn't mobilize your troops without following through and going to war. Article says "Israel is considering a ground campaign". Mobilizing 75,000 reservists and drafting 16,000 more says to me that they are more than considering that ground campaign.

2012-11-17 07:06:13 AM
What is the over/under in Vegas on Israel?

2012-11-17 07:08:01 AM
Just imagine if your neighbor was firing at your house.
Luckily for you though, your neighbor is blind.

Would u still just sit there and wait for him to get lucky?

Anyway, The Iron Dome system is simply fantastic. Over 500 rocket launches, around 130 intercepts. Leaves rockets with trajectory towards unpopulated areas alone.

2012-11-17 07:08:12 AM
I guess the U.S. better keep any warships out of the area. Wouldn't want another "accident".

2012-11-17 07:08:21 AM
Notice that they did it at night, when no one was likely to be there. Clearly trying to avoid unnecessary casualties.

Why doesn't Israel just say "Fark it" and start a 1940's style carpet bombing-style campaign. A rolling barrage starting in the north up to the doorsteps of Gaza City. Just turn the entire stretch into a moonscape. Disproportionate force is the only way Hamas is ever going to be cowed for a significant amount of time and if you're going to to take the PR hit anyways, you might as well get your money's worth.

2012-11-17 07:08:41 AM
Well, I'm impressed that it only took 25 posts to make it absolutely clear that only one side is to blame.

Spooky, even.

• 30 reported killed in Gaza, including 8 children
• Three killed by rocket fire in Israel

By attacking Israel?

2012-11-17 07:10:32 AM
Oh crap...the President is sending OUR ships off the coast? To "evacuate Americans?" Um...ya. I wonder how long it will be before we start lobbing shells into Hamas territory. Not that I'm against that, as they are terrorists, but the body count of civilians will be massive. I hope this isn't another start to war for us like Vietnam was. "Advisers" indeed. Seems like the same chess moves to me. I don't mind us supporting Israel, but at least call it what it is. Force escalation.

2012-11-17 07:11:24 AM
Updated numbers:

Since Operation Pillar of Defense started.

Rockets from Gaza: 720
Rockets Intercepted by Iron Dome: 217

Only 27 reached residential areas, a 4% success rate.

Ah, yes, because everyone in that region is a terrorist, pure and simple, including children that are bound to get caught up in the fray, and therefore deserve to die.

Should Israel be forced to sit back and take constant bombing from Hamas? No. But don't go painting war so black and white. Israel is bound to have the blood of innocents on their hands, as well.

FTA: Officials in Gaza told Reuters that 30 Palestinians - 14 militants and 16 civilians, among them eight children and a pregnant woman - had been killed in the enclave since Israel began its air strikes. Three Israeli civilians were killed by a rocket on Thursday.

2012-11-17 07:12:33 AM
So are there any rules, for every x numbers of mostly ineffectual missiles that hamas flings into israel the IDF gets to fling back one very effectual bomb?

I am thinking 10 to 1 would be good round ratio.

Actually, the difference is more like:-

1. Hamas indiscriminately attacks civilians and anyone else.
2. Israel targets military targets, which are often deliberately placed near civilians, leading to civilian deaths.

I know which side I'm on. The one that has an economy and is broadly speaking, liberal with regards to race, sexuality and religion.

Only 30 so far ? Come on Israel - time to stop being a pussy

2012-11-17 07:13:29 AM
I'm so tired of apologists standing up for Israel. They took their farking country, kicked them out, redrew the lines, kicked them out again, ad nauseum. Israel has done little to nothing to build relationships there and is more than glad to continue to throw around their military might as opposed to solving the problem (in a way that wouldnt just involved wiping out Palestine).

And we as Americans are expected to swallow it for a variety of reasons. It's Zion, so there's that! Plus you're an anti-semite if you vote against Israel and they're our only legit ally over there so we've sent them so much $$/military hardware, they'd give us a helluva time if we ever had to engage them in war. Go USA!

This shiat goes WAY beyond today's issue. This goes back to 1947-8. You cannot ignore history. You must take it at its whole.

CipollinaFan: It still feels like the same ols "Shiat" wake me when another country gets involved.

Exactly...Hamas is backed by the Government of Iran. The difference this time could very well be Justification to Bomb Iran's nuclear hopes back into the stone ages.

Which sucks a little because Persians are good people, just have a terrible Government.
IMHO

2012-11-17 07:14:04 AM
And to all the "poor Hamas " apologists, fark you. They are terrorists, pure and simple. They hide and fight among civilians, hence the civilian body count. I have a hard time taking the side of a people that wants to exterminate the Jews just for existing.

2012-11-17 07:16:29 AM
This could end very easily, with no further casualties or loss of life. Hamas just needs to stand down. Period. Nothing else will end it without a LOT more bloodshed.

/Agree. Hard to take the side of people who deliberately target civilians with suicide bombers. fark Hamas, I hope they roll over them and end this shiat once and for all. And Egypt is supporting Hamas it seems, so we would have that to contend with if we got involved.

2012-11-17 07:17:14 AM
Please all of you kill each other. Totally. 100% annihilation.

There's a lot in this world I care about but Israel and the Middle East is not included. Kill and die at your pleasure.

You are a racist if you are against Obama. If you attack Obama the left goes all out to find whatever bit they can and twist them into their preconceptions.

Its a simplistic bullshiat viewpoint, is it not?

From another thread:

Makes you wonder if England's polocy assistance to create Isreal was a big cloaked anti-semetic troll by knowingly offering Jews a "homeland" as an excuse to get them to emigrate out of Europe....right into the middle of a culturally hostile territory...and European Jewery fell right into the trap.
