Smashed Hat: That man was President for eight years. It feels like one of those weird half remembered dreams now.

Before that "dream", we had a balanced budget, a budgetary surplus, a thriving economy, a stable future, an optimistic domestic situation, a reasonably calm military situation, and the respect of the civilized world.

In 8 short years, we ended up with a destroyed budget, billions in deficits, an economy in recession, an uncertain future, a domestic situation plunged into fascism, a military situation involving war in two different countries and conflicts in half a dozen others, and the rest of the civilized world wondering what in the hell happened.

He may or may not be the worst leader this country has ever had, but he's up in the top three.

He was a rich, Yale-educated (failed) oil tycoon who put on his "Larry the Cable Guy" act, snowed enough morons to vote for him, and then handed the reins to a cabal of conservative extremists who would've been right at home in Iran, or Egypt. That cabal promptly drove the country into the ground while this lying asshat spent a third of his Presidency either on his "ranch" in Crawford or at Camp David. He cleared bush for PR flacks while Rome burned.

The fact that this lying asshat is now laying low but enjoying the good life instead of stting in a box at The Hague, along with his cronies, is probably going to be one of recent history's grave injustices.

It's many of the same people on both cases, and they vote on media perception and personality more than the actual platform.

GW was very folksy and familiar while Gore was a a robot and Kerry was dryer than a seventy year old prostitute.
Forward to 2008 and you've got a very jovial Obama vs old man McCain, and then the way too strait laced Romney in 2012.

In respect I don't see much of a difference between either party in the presidency.
They both zipped open the treasury for the favor of big business. Peace loving Democrats go to war like demons and conservative republicans waste money every chance they get. The real business is still happening in the scotus and in the houses of congress.

As figureheads, all of the recent presidents have done acceptable jobs.
No real Kennedy's or Reagan's among them tho.

Man, the heady times of the fall of 2008.The time when gas flowed freely from the taps of the stations like the milk of paradise in Kubla Khan's palace. The hot sticky air from summer and its $4.00/gallon gas was now a distant, hazy memory. As September wore on, you could feel the crispness in the air as the leaves started to turn like consumer confidence. October brought the the brilliant colors of the season as the leaves and stock markets began to turn and fall in earnest. As we move into late November, we look out in the yard, see the squirrels making the last frantic effort to store away food for the coming winter, mirror the myriads of laid off workers busily wondering how they will keep their shelter and feed their family. I know you wish we could go back to that time, a time of greatness when gas was cheap and everything was right in the world because gas was cheap and that of course, is the sole measure of history.

Technically you are correct, the best type of correct. Fast and Furious was just one of many gun-walking operations that still has nothing to do with Obama except to prove that he isn't an omniscient micro-manager of everything that goes on in the federal government. Unless you are suggesting that Obama is some sort of Sith lord?

Also, like Benghazi, the Fast and Furious scandal is pretty well known and not something that people just ignored, it just doesn't mean that Paul Ryan is automatically president and Obama becomes a rodeo clown.

Sagus: Ok let see.. we have the affordable heath care, going to revenue neutral, actual cost are more then double the claimed cost.

Read the actual CBO report instead of just parroting someone's opinion of it:
CBO Report

From the Report:
The current estimate of the gross costs of the coverage provisions ($1,496 billion through 2021) is about $50 billion higher than last year's projection; however, the other budgetary effects of those provisions, which partially offset those gross costs, also have increased in CBO and JCT's estimates (to $413 billion), leading to the small decrease in the net 10-year tally. Over the 10-year period from 2012 through 2021, enactment of the coverage provisions of the ACA was projected last March to increase federal deficits by $1,131 billion, whereas the March 2012 estimate indicates that those provisions will increase deficits by $1,083 billion. The net cost was boosted by an additional $168 billion in estimated costs for Medicaid and CHIP and $8 billion less in estimated revenues from the excise tax on high-premium health insurance plans. But those increases were more than offset by a reduction of $97 billion in the projected costs for the tax credits and other subsidies for health insurance provided through the exchanges and related spending, a reduction of $20 billion in the projected costs for tax credits for small employers, and a reduction of $107 billion in deficits from the projected revenue effects of changes in taxable compensation and penalty payments and from other small changes in estimated spending.

Yeah, basically CBO now estimates the net effect is that Obamacare will result in a smaller deficit. Not exactly terrible news for the president, especially not compared to the Medicare part D give-away to prescription drug companies under Bush, given that the government wasn't allowed to negotiate prices.

The current Benghazi cover up. everyone knows it was a terrorist attack, While he claimed it was spontaneous riot caused by a video. How many spontaneous riots have rpgs handy.

Yes, it was a terrorist attack. The white house has said as much as well as saying it from the video. It wasn't a coverup as much as a lack of communication about what was going on and mixed messages being sent out. It was also something everyone is sick to death of hearing about, it was well covered in the media and thus not something "he got a pass on". Compare that to all the attacks on our embassies that happened under Bush. Quick, can you name them all? I can't, because they weren't covered in the press, Bush got a pass on them all. But here they are none the less:

June 14, 2002, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan
Suicide bomber kills 12 and injures 51.

February 20, 2003, international diplomatic compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Truck bomb kills 17.

February 28, 2003, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan
Gunmen on motorcycles killed two consulate guards.

July 30, 2004, U.S. embassy in Taskkent, Uzbekistan
Suicide bomber kills two.

December 6, 2004, U.S. consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Militants stormed and occupied perimeter wall. Five killed, 10 wounded.

March 2, 2006, U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan
Suicide car bomber killed four, including a U.S. diplomate directly targeted by the assailants.

September 12, 2006, U.S. embassy in Damascus, Syria
Gunmen attacked embassy with grenades, automatic weapons, and a car bomb (though second truck bomb failed to detonate). One killed and 13 wounded.

January 12, 2007, U.S. embassy in Athens, Greece
A rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the embassy building. No one was injured.

July 9, 2008, U.S. consulate in Istanbul, Turkey
Armed men attacked consulate with pistols and shotguns. Three policemen killed.

March 18, 2008, U.S. embassy in Sana'a, Yemen
Mortar attack misses embassy, hits nearby girls' school instead.

September 17, 2008, U.S. embassy in Sana'a, Yemen
Militants dressed as policemen attacked the embassy with RPGs, rifles, grenades and car bombs. Six Yemeni soldiers and seven civilians were killed. Sixteen more were injured.

Then we have fast and furious weapons escapade.

That started under Bush in 2006. Like in the Benghazi incident, Obama isn't omniscient and doesn't everyone that is going in a vast government bureaucracy, nobody can. There are plenty of legitimate complaints to made against Obama, but you not only managed to bring up none of them, but brought up areas where Bush looks a lot worse in comparison.

Don't blame your failure of a president on Obama or the Democrats. It wasn't the Democrats that were too embarrassed to have Bush speak at the Republican National Convention. It isn't Democrats who suddenly cease to speak Bush's name after his term in office as if the years 2001-2008 suddenly ceased to exist. It isn't Democrats who retroactively voted independent in previous elections, because Democrats are proud of our past president, and aren't trying to bury their past in the sand like a smelly turd.

57 States?
You didn't build that?
Ten thousand people died in Kansas?
Clinging to guns and religion?
"We've seen just a skyrocketing autism rate. Some people are suspicious that it's connected to the vaccines. This person included. The science right now is inconclusive, but we have to research it."?

Whether the talking heads skew in his favor up for debate, but we can't pretend that the man hasn't had his moments in front of the cameras.

I think its a fair point about modern media coverage not giving candidates as much of a break.
FDR ran a world war from his wheelchair but the average man on the street wouldn't have noticed it, even by his fourth term.
Woodrow Wilson repaid his unprecedented support from black voters by putting segregationists in power and setting the racial divide back fifty years.
Kennedy basically lied about the missile gap to get elected, mishandled Cuba and got a pass on his military dealings in Vietnam.
Reagan... well, someone already posted the Reagan comic. So you see what we've got there.

If any of these men had been followed around 24/7 by cameras recording their every statement, its likely we'd remember them as very different men now.
