Medic Zero: Indubitably: Gyrfalcon: Mashaka: Gyrfalcon: BackwardsHatClub: So if you confess your desire to shoot people to the cops you are making a terroristic threat? That seems... unfair. Confessing is now a crime? They have to do something. Would you prefer people like this go to the cops and they say "Oh, okay. Off you go then, have a nice day!"No. But this is where you introduce them to mental health services - not lock them in a cage for years, sitting there useless and getting even more bitter on the public's dime. They may still do that. But first the cops have to arrest them. It's one of those pesky things that has to happen these days, since involuntary commitment laws are so tight. If you think someone is a threat to others, then the cops can get them mental health care--but not without arresting them. By law, they cannot just let them go if they feel the threat is valid.Cops are good mental-health evaluators, no?Please. Please seek community corrections, i.e. accountability at home. Thank you.I don't know how it works elsewhere, but here in Seattle, the police pick the person up and bring them to a hospital for a mental evaluation. All the police do is secure them and transport them (well, the medics are the ones that transport them most of the time). Mental health professionals are the ones that evaluate the person and determine whether they need to be held and assessed further. If you can manage to play sane for a few hours you'll usually get to go home.
