Yeah, I was starting to like that show. Even if they did do stupid stuff like communicating by radio with a submerged submarine.

I tried getting into Last Resort. As a military brat, I love shows that have anything to do with the Navy or the Marines but that show was so bad. You could tell who ever wrote that show has not been within fifty meters of a base. How hard would it have been to do just a tad bit of research before writing?

2012-11-16 07:55:43 PM
Last Resort had lots of potential, but I think the 8pm timeslot on Thursday hurt them as it seemed like more of a 9pm or 10pm kind of show. It had it's stupid moments to be sure and dear god, some idiotic plot points, but the overall concept was sound.

The new show I'm shocked to find I'm enjoying quite a bit is The Neighbors.

I quite enjoy surreal comedies. The first episode was a bit rushed, so I didn't think it was going to get better quite so quickly.

2012-11-16 07:58:54 PM
We watched Last Resort purely on the strength of Andre. Andre is one of those actors that makes anything awesome. Loved his "Thief" series. Last Resort however, while an interesting premise for a movie, has had some suck-ass plotting as well as badly-written secondary characters. There was no good way to sustain the story premise more than one season. It would be nice if they wrote a wrap-up episode but if that happens it will probably be for the DVD and not air.

2012-11-16 08:06:20 PM
Never heard of either, but they both sound horrible.

2012-11-16 08:06:36 PM
Eh, I'm more disappointed in 'Partners' getting the axe.

Each episode was an improvement in the writing and the chemistry of the cast, and where it was a time filler at first, we actually were liking the show now.

That would be because 666 Park Ave is actually a privately-owned maisonette in 660 Park Ave

I watched one episode of Last Resort based on a co-worker's recommendation. I thought it came across as a cheesy prime time soap opera. Every character seemed like a caricature. The technical stuff seemed questionable at best and the plot seemed like film-student quality. Hopefully something better will take its place.

Me and Mrs Trade Secret watched the first episode of 666, never went back to it, delegated it from the DVR last week. Last Resort otoh, we have watched every episode. Its cancellation sucks. We enjoy it. Maybe it helps that I know nothing about subs and could suspend my disbelief.

/Now I'll never know what the damn SEALS did to warrant a nuke.

Last Resort was good (as far as network tv can be good. See also: Revolution)

No network tv is anywhere near as good as the hbo/showtime/cinmax are, but I thought Last Resort had the chops to get better.

Just going to tell myself it's all just a conspiracy.

The gubmint shut down last resort because Americans were getting too many anti-authoritarian patriotic vibes from the liberals at ABC. This uprising had to be squashed before it started.

This is much better than the truth; that all TV shows I like will be cancelled to make way for Dancing with the Stars and the Voice and 2 1/2 men and blahblahblah

2012-11-16 08:29:28 PM
I had never heard of Last Resort. Seems odd to cancel a show with numbers so similar to Nashville.

My wife was explaining it to me, and I can't imagine it working as a 8pm lead-in to Grey's Anatomy.
I automatically dismiss everything on ABC as 'chick show.'
I don't watch CBS because I'm tired of CSI clones and Big Bang Theory is just old geek jokes.
I don't watch NBC because I don't want to see Law & Order clones.

Breaking Bad, HBO, football, and a few shows in the Frontline, 60 Minutes groove. I wouldn't have TV if it wasn't basically free for me.

Yeah, that show's premise didn't sound like it could be stretched over 22 one-hour episodes. It would have worked better as a TV movie or a mini-series.

Huh. Well that explains a lot of things, actually.

It's a sad day for fans of two ambitious ABC dramas that came up short in the ratings this fall: Last Resort

The only show I had any real interest in this season. Thought it had real potential.

Stay classy ABC.

The money saved on lighting didn't make up for all the crew and extras that were eaten by demons or f*cked to death by the succubi.

THIS.
Not sure how they could stretch resort into more than 2 seasons, but it was still an ok show.

The thing with last resort is, they develop an ongoing story, bring it to a cliff hanger, then cancel it. To that I say, FARK YOU ABC!!!

Never saw it; but I had the same gut reaction as I did to "Lost"--it's just too implausible for more than one season. A rogue nuke sub hiding somewhere in the world because they were mad at the US? It's an awesome idea for sure...but more than one season and the plot impossibilities were going to start piling up beyond the abilities of all but the most gifted scriptwriters. As soon as I heard about the island warlord, I knew they were over the shark tank.

Watching him chew scenery almost made the whole show worth it. And Patrick's character got fun once they let him do something besides scowl and issue threats constantly. His interaction with the French girl about cowboys was gold.

I think they've already filmed all 13 episodes. Otherwise I'd really hope for a great "F*ck you" ending from the writers like they did with the US version of "Life on Mars".

The captain and the COB are the greatest thing about the show. The rest of the characters still don't really stand out much. Still, I was enjoying the show. I think it deserved another season.

Hopefully the show can at least wrap things up with a short epilogue. Maybe just launch all the nukes.

THAT would be awesome. Ending the show by starting World War Three would be a great troll move by the writers.

Yeah, at first I dismissed that show. Then watched a couple of eps and thought "Hmmm, looks interesting."

Now they cancel it? See networks, this is why I keep my TV either to sports or not turned on. You geniuses don't give me a farking reason to keep it on~!

I figure there's a chance they could tack on some kind of quick ending (like what happened with Pushing Daisies). Depending on what happens in the final episode, starting WWIII might be doable with just a quick voice-over and some CGI.

I don't watch anything else on ABC except Once Upon A Time, which we made Appointment Television for the entire family since the first episode. I watched the opener for a goof, but damned if they didn't hook me with byzantine plotting, interesting takes on old charters and stories, and a lot of style, plus a great cast. I love the guy that plays Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold, he's marvelously over the top. All the women are hot, and the villainess chews scenery as good as Alexis used to in Dallas.

The New Normal is easily one of the worst shows I've ever seen, but it gets decent ratings for a NBC show.

I'm disappointed that Last Resort is kaput, even though it dragged a bit.

As for 666 Park Avenue, it was-- like so many ABC shows-- basically a soap opera. I watched one episode, and that episode had something like an A plot, a B plot, a C plot, and a D plot. Maybe an E plot. Infidelity was the subject of at least two of them. Like I said, Soap Opera.

How does that show have potential? The concept has potential as a movie or mini-series, but how long could they keep it going? I've been watching the show and I think the cancellation is good news.

No matter what you think of Last Resort now, do you think season 2 would have been as good?

666 Park Ave - Watched the pilot for shiats and giggles, and it was as bad as I had suspected. It's the kind of show that might work on cable if they could show more skin and violence.

Last Resort - I have mildly enjoyed this show, and I'm disappointed that it's going. There's nothing else like it, and several episodes, including the pilot, went places that I didn't imagine it would go. However, unbelievable tactical decisions, like letting the island warlord live for more than 15 minutes, have made for some frustrated viewing. The cast is stellar -- Lost-level talent. I imagine that it's a pricey show to produce, so the ratings have to be huge to justify keeping it.

Revolution - Have half-heartedly followed this one. It's another show where the decisions the characters make are frustrating. Like when the brother breaks free and runs about 20 feet and then stops in the middle of a field for no damn reason, when every creature on Earth would sprint until they collapsed from exhaustion, and of course he gets tackled immediately. And the cliches where the characters are surrounded... and then they break free! Over and over again. There's a lot of that shiat. Dumb.

The major TV networks water down their big shows just like the movie studios water down the huge blockbusters. It makes for bland programming.

First season of 'Once' was decent. This season is a dreadful cavalcade of Disney characters. Too bad.

No, I think it has more to do with the fact that her name is "Dichen Lachmann".

Sounds like some angry German dude, not a hot young chick.

And we can console ourselves with watching select scenes in The Big Bang until then.
