Cymbal: Drizzt, motherfarkers!

First thing I thought of too, though I'd much rather see a movie about Jarlaxle.

That's the dumbest misspelling of 'Elric' I've ever seen, man.

I loved Thor. I thought it was one of the best of the phase 1 Marvel movies.

elvindeath: Really ? I thought he nailed it. I always imagine Thor as quick to anger and quick to laugh. He's physically imposing, can deliver a line and displayed both Thor's rage and his compassion.

Well, first off, I'll just say that there is something about his face that I just don't like. He just doesn't look anything at all like Thor to me. Thor should be more hard-edged and Nordic. And the whole character just needed to be a bit more menacing. Hemsworth's Thor is a little too Adam Westy for my tastes.

I would have preferred someone like Alexander Skarsgard. He could have sold the idea of Thor as an arrogant, self-important and thin-skinned asshole who gets himself kicked out of Asgard. But I never bought it with Hemsworth. I never believed that Odin could look at that babyface and see a lost cause.

I would agree Portman was the low point of Thor, much as it pains me to see it. She didn't look like she wanted to be in the flick at all. Honey, if you can't get into the Superhero stuff, don't take the role. Gwyneth Paltrow can even stop biatching long enough to throw herself into her role.

Don't get me wrong, Chris Hemsworth was far from the only thing wrong with the story. I agree that Portman was phoning it in, with a strong sense of deja vu - I saw her play this character before, in Attack of the Clones. But, much as I did with AotC, I put the blame for that on who she was acting against and the lousy role she was given. The Jane Foster character was as bland of a Token Love Interest as they come, whose sole motivation seems to be a powerful appreciation for Thor's dumb hunkiness. It's not really fair to compare that to Gwenyth Paltrow playing Pepper Pots, who had a lot more going on as a character, and Gwenyth was acting against RDJ, who is totally awesome.

The thing is in Thor 2 the writing can improve, and Portman can actually pretend she cares about the movie she's in, and the tone can change, but Chris Hemsworth is still going to be Chris Hemsworth, and I'm still going to look at him and think "Nope, I don't buy this guy as Thor."

skepticultist: While I will definitely see it, I have very low expectations for Thor 2. The single biggest problem with Thor was Chris Hemsworth, and that hasn't changed, so I don't expect much else too either.

Saw him at Comic-Con last year. Seemed like a good guy just having fun. Can't be jealous of him being ridiculously good-looking. If that gives me enough leverage to take the old lady out to a movie where I can see Natalie Portman being hot and Kat Dennings flaunting her jumblies, I'm all good.

/caused some major quaking with my Mjolnir that night
