Old people and soldiers are two largest recipients of entitlement spending.

Both groups went for Romney.

Remember, despite the fact that most of the 47% are the young, retirees, and the military, it is important that we describe them like strapping young bucks using food stamps to buy t bone steaks.

That socialism helps me. Therefore, it isn't socialism because I'm not a socialist. It's just free stuff that I'm entitled to from the government.

Look, any attempt to list all the things wrong with what Romney said would take years. There's no point in even trying. Just let him stand there in his wrongness and be wrong.

So we balance the budget by increasing taxes on the top 2%, AND increase spending on entitlement programs instead of modifying them appropriately to ensure their longevity?

Economic health is more important than the debt right now. Cutting government spending or raising taxes help the debt but will hurt our economic recovery. Most everyone recognizes this. The right is only pushing debt reduction because their magic-heavy view of economics makes them incorrectly think they can both lower government spending while improving economic activity.

Raising taxes on the highest wage earners does a little to address the debt and does the least damage to the economy.

Republican leaders say they will accept new tax revenue, but not higher tax rates.

So they want to close loopholes and deductions? Or is there some other magical way to increase tax revenues without increasing rates? And if they close loopholes and deductions, how is that not clearly increasing rates?

It's just doublespeak, they're both exactly the same, but the Republicans are now religiously involved with making sure the wealthiest are protected from the effects of the Bush Recession, and that only the poor suffer.

If you honestly think the Democrats have a plan to control entitlement spending; especially when groups like the NAACP, SCLC, and SPLC all say that we're not spending nearly ENOUGH on our nation's poor, destitute, and ethnically disenfranchised minority groups..and these are the SAME groups that have been asked to take part of the 'discussion'-- you've got another thing coming.

I don't have a problem with raising tax rates on the wealthy. But raising tax rates, and then making increasing 'adjustments' to entitlements isn't going to get us anywhere either.

raise the cap on income for social security and means test it for anyone with a net worth of more than $5,000,0000.

Which loopholes? Be specific.

If you name specific loopholes, then the magical math wizards in the CBO can perform their arcane financial prophecies and tell us who will pay more taxes. It's uncanny how they do that.

Or, we can take the Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan tack, and say that some loopholes of some kind might need to be closed in some way, but it would take too long to explain. But for some reason the CBO number magicks don't work so good anymore.
