badaboom: Fart_Machine: badaboom: So should shelter and food which are just as necessary. Now who pays for it? THAT is the central issue.

See the funny thing is that by passing off the burden to the emergency room you're paying for it eventually.

It's way more complicated than that

No. It's not. The simple fact is that it's already being paid for, albeit in an extremely inefficient fashion.

The point I was making is that low skill workers take what they can get. Until people like you get it through your skulls that healthcare is a basic human right and not a job perk there is no point in talking to you.

Toodles!

A basic human right? Can you define the level of healthcare and the cost of that healthcare that is a person's right to have? And where is that defined as a basic human right? If it isn't provided, is someone violating your rights? Who? What is the penalty for violating these rights? What is the statute of limitations for enforcing these rights since 10 years ago no one gave me health insurance. Who can I sue?

Claiming something is a basic human right does not mean it is.

I meant a basic human right in as much as we don't shiat all over our most vulnerable citizens and we owe them healthcare just because they occupy the same earth as we do.

Except for you. I hope you get untreatable ball cancer.

hillbillypharmacist: JerseyTim: It's unbelievable that you can make $600 million selling shiatty pizza.
Yeah, but it's shiatty pizza that you can order over the internet easily. Plus, the garlic dipping sauce, dude, the garlic dipping sauce.

Make your own (recipe below) and save yourself from ingesting all the microbes/fungi/and heaven-knows-what-else from the untreated illnesses. Seriously. Cheap garlic powder (which Papa Johns probably uses) is only .99cents a jar. You will have that sauce coming out of your ears and save a ton of money.

This is all that stuff is:

1/2 butter
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
salt to taste
Put in a small glass bowl
microwave

I think one farker hit the nail on the head. The guy has made a fortune selling very poor food from sub-par recipes.

Pretty much. Why do you think so many people are on welfare? Why are so many people on food stamps? Why is Medicare in such a crunch right now? Hint: It's NOT because people feel "entitled" or because they "like" getting free handouts while they sit around doing nothing. In most places, like California, you actually have to at least try to find work or be seriously disabled before you qualify for benefits. No--it's because people have to make choices about where their money goes, and some things can't be paid for with government benefits.

So they get benefits for things that CAN be paid for with benefits--food, housing, medical care--and their paychecks go to stuff that can't--clothing, utilities, other necessities. If healthcare was paid for across the board, then people would have more discretionary income from their jobs to buy food and pay rent, and they'd need less for that. But since we force people to choose between medicine for their kids or keeping the heat on, they have to go on welfare. Nice, huh?

badaboom: clowncar on fire: Peter von Nostrand: Employers are pissed that they can't keep passing off their responsibility to their employees to the rest of society.
.....

Hi. I make this product. Currently it costs me a $1.00 to make. I sell it for $1.25 so I am doing pretty well. But now the government wants me to provide X to each of my workers at a cost of .20 cents per product more in expense. So now it costs me $1.20 to make the product. So what are my choices? Well, I could just lower my profit margins to 5 cents per product. But that would affect my stock holders and my ability to reinvest in the company. Oh, and my profit margin is directly responsible for my ability to raise capital. Lower my margin and my interest rates go up. But, it is a choice. Or I could pass the cost onto the consumer, I'll start charging $1.45. Hmm, but that might lower sales and make me less competitive. Or I could lower the salaries and benefits of my employees. Hmm, but that might make it less attractive to work for my company, I may have a hard time hiring people. The good thing is, in a free farking country I get to decide what I want to do. Me. Not you. Want to make decisions like this? Become me.

Your numbers are off a bit 8 Million on over 1 Billion in sales would be more like the government changed a regulation so that $1.00 product now cost you $1.005 (I am even rounding up here) and your profit is no longer $.25 but rather $.245 per unit.

A company paid their worker a wage which ensured they were able to survive and have a nice middle class life, the worker repaid the employee with hard work and devoted service, crafting his or her expertise to maximise efficiency. They were eventually able to retire with honors and a pension.

Now, companies only care bout how much profit they can generate. Workers are paid minimum wage, often given less than 30 hours a week, and no benefits. Labor unions sprung up to combat the growing greed of the company and now are just another form of corporation that exists to take money from the hard workers and line the pockets of the people above them.

This is not right. And I meant hours, not wages. You can't cut more than the minimum wage, as much as our hallowed job creators would like to. Let's not forget that Gingrich wanted child labor laws removed so he could make poor black children do the janitor's job in an effort to make them "Learn life skills."

Dude, the issue here is the guy is f*cking loaded, he'll do fine under Obamacare, he's just being a sociopathic asshole. His competition also has to bear this, so to say his business is going to take a hit is f*cking retarded, especially with his national business model. You may have been facetious about Papa John's business understanding, but believe me, I am not being facetious when I say you sure as shiat don't know how to run a business or have one f*cking clue about the economy.

He's not alone, then, in this thread, about not knowing shiat about the economy.

Yes other pizza companies and service industries also have to bear this burden, but how does Papa Johns stack up against Dominos, Little Caesars, or Pizza Hut? They are the little guy in that fight, and these fixed labor cost increases can be better handled by the firms with more volume. Papa Johns is going to lose competitiveness over being forced to provide insurance for their employees as against their other national competitors.

Further, subby doesn't know shiat about the difference between yearly earnings, profits, and balances, and the difference between someone's "net worth" and their profit margin.

But hey, just because someone made a bunch of money from willing customers with the help of willing employees means we can demand under threat of jail that they spend their money how we think it should be spent. Nevermind trying to organize voluntary boycotts or promoting worthy charity initiatives, let's just pull out our guns and yell at these guys until they give in (or "go Galt").

And you know why health insurance is so entwined with employment in the first place? Because of farking govt price controls on labor and tax incentives. How about instead of forcing employers to provide insurance to every employee, often at a cost more than they are worth in term of marginal productivity, we demand that the govt STOP TAXING WAGE EARNERS so they have more money to buy insurance if they want it.

Testiclaw:
It's almost to the point that I do just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

That's how I feel.

As a species, I don't think we're worth saving. We could do amazing things, as a species, together.

But we don't. And we won't. Because of artificial, man-made conflicts and bullshiat, manufactured problems.

Fark it, and fark us: let elephants or whalesharks rule the world.

"We" don't do shiat. Individual people do things, good and bad. Stop thinking that "we" have to come together to do anything - that well only lead to more bullshiat, because 7 billion people can't make decisions without representation, and those representatives won't have your best interest at the center of the decision making. Instead, decide that YOU rule your world, and everyone else rules theirs. Make amazing advances on your own or with people who willingly join in your efforts.

And stop internalizing the bad actions of others, you are not responsible for those man-made problems.

We already do that when we require work safety standards for just one example. This is how society works.
