(KATV.com)   Game & Fish Commission can't explain how fisherman managed to catch "good-sized" octopus in Lake Conway, but dinner is definitely served. C'mon and get in the boat -- octopus. C'mon and get in the boat -- mollusk mollusk   (katv.com) divider line 69

What ever happened to the walking airbreathing man eating chinese fish from hell?

the lake dwelling octopus and the fish from hell are currently battling it out on monster island. I'm watching it live on Pay-Per-View. After this fight Blinky the 3 eyed fish is going to take on Swampthing in a battle royale.

2003-12-04 05:19:55 PM
Maybe a fishing pole or a net.

2003-12-04 05:21:24 PM
Yall know how to catch a polar bear?

1. Cut a hole in the ice.
2. Sprinkle peas around it.
3. When he comes to take a pee, you kick him in the icehole.

I once caught an eel in freshwater. Was in GA. Man, someone took that thing home and ate it. I guess some people will eat anything, look at Pam Lee.

I'm voting that it's a distant relative of the three eyed fish.

2003-12-04 05:26:20 PM
Is there such a thing as a freshwater octopus? I can't fathom that an octopus would survive longer than 20 minutes in a freshwater lake.

2003-12-04 05:26:23 PM
Here's your perfunctory comment with the words "Bill Clinton" that follows any story about Arkansas. Go on.

2003-12-04 05:26:30 PM
Wow... I'm going to have to start fishing.

I saw a foot long Plecostamus suckingon the side of the riverwalk in San Antonio. Pretty sure those are not native to Texas rivers.
Though the riverwalk is nasty enough it migh have just been a mutated perch.

2003-12-04 05:34:14 PM
Can't say this is so surprising, considering the number of people who dump their aquariams into lakes.

2003-12-04 05:34:20 PM
It's from "Jigs and Lures"...my all time fav.

I don't get the "c'mon and get in the boat" thing.

2003-12-04 05:35:37 PM
Yes Dammit, if Clinton wasn't getting BJ's in the oval office, this octopus problem would not even be an issue.

2003-12-04 05:35:46 PM
nomales :

This past summer my brother cause a 4 foot eel out of a Greenwood Lake in NJ/NY. The thing slimmed the hell out of our boat.
But I bet that's not the worst thing swimming around in NJ/NY water.
I've seen many killer ribbed rubber sock fish swimming in the bay by the Verrazano bridge. ewww

There is a Chinese buffet on Bruton road in SE Dallas that has a dish called Jalapeno Octopus. I get it every time I go there. The Octopi are about 3 inches long. The heads are tender and the arms are chewey. Good eatin'.

2003-12-04 05:38:21 PM
I ate octopi tentacles once, not bad, kinda chewy.

2003-12-04 05:39:25 PM
I've caught eels in the Rappahannock river in Virginia.

Eels spawn in freshwater and then live in the ocean - Octopi can't survive in freshwater.

I say this is a hoax.

I for one, welcome our new mollusk overlords.

Appears this is not the first time someone has come across a freshwater octopus.

http://www.geocities.com/capedrevenger/freshwateroctopus.html

This puts the freshwater octopus in the same league as the yeti and bigfoot (cryptids).

So my vote: A hoax. A real saltwater octopus would croak very quickly in fresh water.

2003-12-04 05:52:27 PM
a little lemon juice and olive oil, then slap that sucker on the grill. yum.

taGtp: those are commonly referred to as coney island whitefish in these parts.

2003-12-04 05:59:51 PM
Some eels spawn in freshwater, that is. The American Eel does the opposite, actually. They live most of their lives in fresh water and go to the Sargasso Sea to spawn Americans tend to not eat them that often, but there is actually a fairly large market for American Eels in Asia. Another interesting fact...most if not all (can't remember) of the nastyass sea urchin roe that is used in Japanese cuisine is harvested off of the American west coast. Strange but true.
