PATH ≠ NYC subway

In other news, Jodi Applegate still looks fly. Too bad she married that big-headed goon Michael Kay.

"Anyone on the 126 bus tonight, that can help us out with food, money, for the homeless, at the shelter......if you can help us out....please help us out......I have sandwiches......."

They had the chariman of PATH on good day this morning. Sounds like its going to be months before hoboken is running again.

I don't get it. The man is obnoxious and he's got the palate sophistication of a 4-year old. He's never had soup and apparently the most exotic thing he'll eat is chicken parm.

And have I mentioned how obnoxious he is? Good lord.

They are doing a pretty job, all things considered with picking up the slack on the PATH. I have to say, Area X in PABT works with a scary amount of efficiency.

The big problem is the morning commute. At first there weren't enough buses. Now they have too many, and the busses are causing traffic jams. So everyone swarms the ferries, or goes to JC for PATH. But then that gets swarmed, so everyone tries something different the next day. Its been 2 weeks, and I don't think there has been a single day where I have taken the same route to and from work two days in a row, so its pretty hard for them to work around it. My nice 20 minute door to door commute now takes me an hour and a half. Monday morning it took me 4+ hours to get into work.

I didn't even go in on Monday. It was such a disaster. There was a bus accident in the XBL headed to the tunnel causing a massive delay. There were two more accidents the rest of the delay. That was the worst I've ever seen it.

Usually, when there's an accident like that, they divert the buses to Secaucus and let you transfer to the trains. Of course, those aren't running. From what I understand, some NJ Transit train service is returning on Monday, so that should alleviate some of the bus congestion.

Basically, anywhere further out than Ulster County. To the rest of the world, your local political boundaries have no practical consequences, so it's all about proximity.

/ That is not a shot at New York. All places are viewed this way by outsiders to some extent.
// I'm practically in Syracuse. To my Los Angeles coworkers, it may as well be Brooklyn.
/// They're not really in Los Angeles, either. Look how many farks people actually give about this?

Most of its running now. The gladstone branch and coast line are still out. Gladstone is supposed to be back up Monday.

The problem is now you have all of these trains dumping folks off in Hoboken, but no PATH to take them into the city. The ferry was great the first week, but now the line is absurd for it (not to mention the 6-8 bucks each way). I've been doing a mix of the ferry, walking\light rail to JC and then taking the path and walking, or the bus to PA and then subway down. They all kind of suck and my commute, in addition to taking like 5x as long, costs me about triple what it used to. They can't fix it soon enough.

All New Jersey jokes aside, if I ever find myself moving to the NYC area, Hoboken is at the top of my list of places to live. It is a gorgeous city and could easily be mistaken as a nice neighbourhood of Manhattan, but because it is on the west side of the Hudson, rent is only a fraction of the cost.

Really hope this mess gets cleaned up soon :(

Since many other young professionals have also had the same idea, Hoboken's rents have increased quite a bit. You do get a little more space for your money, but it's not the bargain it once was. And the sewer system is so bad that it routinely floods in summer thunderstorms.

And I don't know which Manhattan neighborhood you'd compare it to. Don't get me wrong, Hoboken is perfectly nice, but there's an age limit on actually enjoying being there. Too many dipshiat 20-somethings who think they live in New York, frankly.

It's not much better taking the bus on normal days. Though I do agree, it does such atrociously now that most of the busses have been pulled off their regular lines to pick up the slack for the disabled train lines. Spend more than an hour waiting for two measly busses to arrive at the PABT at rush hour, FML

*suck, that is.

There are only so many buses/vehicles you can pack into the Lincoln Tunnel. "More buses" won't really help.

My 1:50 commute to lower Manhattan is now more like 2:40. None of it due to traffic.

/$3/day cheaper, though, because I'm not paying for the PATH.
//Instead of the 126 bus, try the Weehawken ferry to the Light Rail.
///Helps if you rode the bus in to Weehawken from somewhere, which drops the round-trip cost to "free."

Come to the National Paddling Film Festival in February. Steve Fisher guest-hosted this year; Rush Sturges is on the bill for this coming year.
