I've found that if you have to say you have black friends, you're racist.

It would have been classic if he had mentioned them enjoying a trip to the local KFC after "shootin some hoops".

I don't think it's necessarily "racist" but it is stupid like the "legitimate rape" comments these people keep making. I think it is douchebaggery at it's finest (or worsest) not sure which.

Republicans are parodies of themselves.

It would be funny if they weren't holding the entire nation hostage.

GOP policy must be: Open mouth. Insert foot.

In other news, it's good to see that fellow Republicans called him out. There is one commenter who is determined to defend him though. Lol!

Yah. That's a contradiction that makes no sense.

Of course towards the end of the article he does state he will investigate on his own time ..... So he at least has that going for him.

Well, to be fair, how else do you defend a charge of racism? What is he supposed to say? Don't get me wrong, I'm nit defending the guy, but that's a no-win situation, anything he says is going to to blow up on him. If he doesn't claim to know any Black people, than he must be racist because he won't associate with 'those people', if he points to the fact that 'some of his best friends are Black', than he's a racist. His only hope is to adopt the tactic he should have from the beginning and just keep his mouth shut.

No. In order to defend yourself from racism charges, it is as easy as showing how you have acted in ways that have helped the black community.

Have you participated in Trayvon Martin protests? Are you Occupying anything? Did you vote Democrat?

It's pretty easy. And you don't have to resort to the classless and tasteless "I have black friends" canard because you can show that you care deeply about blacks through your actions.

It's like Extreme once said:
Saying 'I love you' is not the words I want to hear from you.
It's not that I want you not to say it, but if you only knew how easy it would be to SHOW ME how you feel.
More than words is all you have to do to make it real.
Then you wouldn't have to say that you loved me, because I'd already know.

Right even when they don't say something racist it's still something that still makes you go "ugh!". Obviously they don't hang out with minorities and don't know how to communicate with them without being offensive.

Well, you can try not making stupid comments you have to explain in the first place. Saying you "Have black friends" to justify not being racist isn't inherently racist, but it is usually and indication that you are racist. Especially because it doesn't mean anything, plenty of racist people have black friends, just because they are inferior to you doesn't mean you wont associate with them. It is basically a lighter version of "I'm not a racist but..."

I liked it. I was there for only 2 days, but it was beautiful, and it's the only time I had lobster that I finally saw what everyone got so excited about. Can't tell you if I saw any Black people or not, but it's because I wasn't really paying attention. I noticed it after moving to Utah, but it took awhile, but that was just because I saw a huge pool crammed with kids and realized out of 200 or so kids, 4 weren't White. Otherwise, I really don't note race...

I'd still go vacation in Maine, I'm serious when I say how much I liked the scenery and food. The people I met were really nice, too.

Generally, mounting a defense isn't necessary unless you've said or done something absurdly racist.

The thing about GOP racists is that they're all so pussy about it when they get called out. They clearly feel that demagoguing against minorities is good politics, because they do it all the farking time. Why not just own it?
