Surprised not to see these guys on the list. Both played college ball -- Burt at FSU (on a football scholarship), Kris at Pomona.

Semi-Tough
was a great book, but sucked balls as a film, partly because of the unnecessary E.S.T. crap added. Not Reynolds' and Kristofferson's faults -- they were believable ball players. As Reynolds had been earlier in The Longest Yard.

I figured they would have at least had to have played in college to make the list. I could care less who played HS ball.

Jamie Foxx stayed here locally a few years back when they were filming Jarhead....He would work out at the gym I go to (26 minutes, blah blah blah, I know) and every few days get into the pickup basketball games that take place...I can't say anything about his football skills, but that dude was a badass on the basketball court...you could tell he just had/has a natural athletic grace about him...guy was farking good!

Sorry, he's in the trivia matrix, there's nothing you can do.

I knew Mark Harmon played. So did his dad. He's talked about it on Letterman.

I keep getting a malware warning from the Alabama carwash secession thread on the main page, for some reason.

Yup the Rock played college ball (and I believe you are correct it was for the Canes) I think Stone Cold played but I'm not sure for whom. Goldberg played for UGA. I know there are others but those are just some off the top of my head.

Yeah, that was the only surprising one for me, too. He's got the build and everything- I'm just surprised that it didn't come up before.

Especially since Cal Poly Pomona has never offered scholarships for football.

I don't think they've ever HAD a football team.

He was a Rethuglikkan. Which means he's an intolerant bigoted piece of crap, like every Rethuglikkan.

Secondary fact about Tommy Lee Jones:

Al Gore was his room mate at the time the dorms got touch tone phones. Jone's complained that Al Gore was playing with the new phone like it was a musical instrument.

SilentStrider: I know the Rock played college ball for the Miami Hurricanes

Correct. Was a defensive tackle on the '91 Champions, got injured and replaced by Warren Sapp. Also, he was famous for chasing Montezuma around the stadium during a game at San Diego State, 20 years ago in two weeks.

Brian Denehey played.

Had his nose broken in practice.

LOL. My dad loved John Wayne. I don't think he took him seriously or anything, he just liked his kind of movies

I'm sure his natural curiosity about things like that later helped him when he invented the internet.

I seriously doubt that secondary fact since two years separated their ages and athletes dont normally room with other students, especially those that would be two years behind him.

I think I was most shocked that Tommy Lee Jones went to Harvard, never knew that.

Totally predictable. Not because I know how the game ends, because as the movie progresss, Tommy Lee Jones forges a deep, unspoken but obvious, respect and admiration for the Yalees he's been chasing under false pretenses

playing high school football isn't playing football. who didn't play football at that age? oh yeah the the one time at band camp camp guys.

I've always pictured Mark Harmon as five foot eight at best. Hmm.

Tommy lee Jones is the least interesting guy in the movie. Lots of cool old dudes.

They were roommates. Both of them have confirmed that in past interviews.

Also, Harvard, like other Ivy League schools, does not offer athletic scholarships, so I don't think they worry about not rooming athletes with other students.
