I used to like howard when he first started on Sirius, but the show has gotten lame.

I haven't listened in a pretty long time (don't have Sirius anymore) but when he started the show was indeed really good. Everyone seemed invigorated, they loved not having censorship, and Artie wasn't trying to stab himself to death yet.

Last time i heard it felt empty, like no one wanted to be there or even cared what was going on. It's almost depressing now.

Bring back Artie and all the boring shows will be forgiven.

I was going through a bunch of classic Howard shows on YouTube. When they had Jackie and Billy West together it was pure comedy gold.

This. What made Stern brilliant was the whole idea that he was pushing the envelope on terrestrial radio. On Sirius, he just sounds like any other dirty old man. Saying fark a bunch of times on satellite is meaningless.

It was like that time they tried to revive The Match Game, except by that point broadcast standards allowed to say dick, fart, and tits, so it wasn't funny anymore.

He's Howard Stern. He's what trolls everywhere aspire to be, and this is part of why.

Actually, he's always talked about how much of a joke that Radio Hall Of Fame is because well.....it is. It's like at some dudes house or something.

As far as the snark about Howard, I still love listening to the guy. He still is the best interviewer out there, and when he's talking about real issues I think he's spot on most of the time.

It's not all about tits and ass and saying fark over and over again like everyone makes the show out to be.

Next thing you know someone will be telling me that Garrison Keillor is still on the air.

If the Radio Hall of Fame wasn't a worthless joke, the wouldn't have inducted him.

Guy should at least do his homework. Stern has been ripping into the Radio Hall of Fame and Bruce Dumont for years - it's not some sudden opinion.

let us have no more inductions to halls of fame until after retirement, or death, which ever comes first.

He's been battling a genetic immuno-deficiency disease since the mid-90s. There was a large amount of speculation that the reason Private Parts got made into a movie was because of his medical costs, and may have also been a part of his (now legendary-for-being-awesomely-gifted-at-business) decision to charge Sirius $150m knowing that a merger was on the horizon.

When the two merged, he made a deal with XM to ALSO provide his sound bites and reference catalog for a paltry $75m.

Then he sold his BRAND Howard Stern Entertainment to S/XM for ANOTHER $50m.

So, to sum up, he made $225m off the shows, and $50m off the deal to sell himself out.

THAT IS HOW YOU FARKING DO IT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

/If you're fighting a not-necessarily-a-disease for the better part of 20 years. It's also why he seems lethargic at times. He only said anything because people thought he was doing heroin or another hard drug. Champion of the First Amendment (sez my right-wing libertarian self). Also an insufferable asshole on (MANY AN) occasion.
//I loved Howard Stern as a teen in the late-90s. Now... I just don't get him - like the HERO whom you realize has just seen too many battles, been the "lone survivor" for too long and just doesn't care anymore.

Slightly off topic, but...

Private Parts was a good movie. And Stern can a act. Though he was playing himself. Point being: I'd like to see him do a screen test as Joey in a Ramones biopic. Doesn't hurt that the guys were friends, too.

The internet killed any hope for satellite radio. It's like how the PS2 killed any hope for Sega and the Dreamcast.

These Howard threads all start off the same...

"Howard still has a show?"

"I used to listen to him, but the show's not as good as it was..."

Blah blah blah. The show has been amazing lately. No one sounds "bored" to be there. Granted all good things must come to an end. But the show still has life and Howard's interviewing skills are among the best.

Yeah, with podcasts, satellite radio somehow seems even less relevant than FM now.

Not a big fan of Stern, (I just don't think he's that funny) but Private Parts is a pretty damn good movie. The scene where he's djing in college and knocks something onto the turntable sends me into clutching-my-stomach laughter every time. Something about the freak-out sounds he makes just sets me off.
